Saturday night I feel the air is getting cold. – Imelda May live in Lincoln

November 28, 2011
Last Saturday night we broke out of our usual house arrest (it’s bloody cold outside, it is) and went to Lincoln to see Imelda May live at the Engine Shed. A great many thanks to my friend Ben for getting us in for free!
Imelda May is a cutie of an Irish rockabilly singer, with an amazing voice and very good presence on stage. If you don’t know her, check her out here.
We had a real good time, the music was great and there was a decent atmosphere. We were surprised to find that the majority of the crowd was 30+. Even though I wasn’t entirely shocked, I still expected it to be a bit more mixed. But It was good, it was refreshing to be around a bunch of well behaved people. Sometimes it can be quite unpleasant when you get people drinking too much and behaving boisterously, which didn’t happen. I must be getting old.
As for the music, she sung not only songs that she wrote but also covers of ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘Baby I love you’, among a few others I can’t recall. The latter was rather sweet, with her voice only, the ukelele and the crowd singing along ‘come on baby’ and the other parts of the song. I also enjoyed a couple of other songs when she prompted the public to sing after her, it was good fun. I was also surprised and pleased at the same time when she pulled out a triskelion decorated bodhrán, certainly as a homage to her Irish roots.
I stole this photo. (Shame on me)
Sadly I don’t have any photos of the show. I didn’t take my camera along for a few reasons: I never manage to take decent photos at nighttime, I never manage to take decent photos of live shows, and it didn’t really fit in the kitty bag.
But we still had a hell of a good time!
So this is what I wore:
This is precisely why I avoid taking indoor outfit photos. They look like crap, makes me look like crap but I still like what I wore, so I thought I’d register it nonetheless.
“Oh look, there’s a bunch of books piled up in that cupboard”
Turban – Lomography shop in Lisbon
Bag– I don’t remember the name of the brand but it came from Ebay
Dress – Elogy , bought at El Corte Ingles
Shoes– Mango
Heart ring – Topshop
The dress is quite simple but good looking, the detail is not quite apparent on the photo but it has some sort of square plastic paillettes on the round collar. The name of the brand is a bit unfortunate, it reminds me of ‘eulogy’, which is not really very cheerful.
The shoes, a severe case of cankles and the lovely carpet in the flat. Did I mention I don’t like carpet? Yet in this country is a bit ubiquitous and for a good reason, it’s comfortable in the Winter I suppose. But I still don’t like it, my dust mite allergies don’t appreciate it.
Funny bag, no? The lady checking the tickets and the bags at the Engine Shed asked to look in my pussy, I thought ‘How rude!’, but then I realized she meant my bag. (this never happened, but it could have!!!)
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and that the week ahead goes away quickly, for another weekend to be had.
