And no one saw the Carny go…

April 6, 2012

These photos are more than a week late, however I had my weekend out in London and have been sickly and not very energetic the last few days. I’m on the mend though, and normal blogging (and all other activities) will now resume. Thanks to everyone who left nice comments on my most recent entries, they did not go unnoticed.

Anyways, we had a ‘mid-lent fair’ in town for a few days with rides and all the tackiness these things usually involve. I didn’t go on the rides but I did walk through it one afternoon, to snap a few fun photos.

Can’t you just hear the initial chords to ‘the Eye of the Tiger’ when you look at this photo? Now you do, haha!

Semi nekkid ladies. Funny fact- there was a ride for kids right next to this one that was full, at that time of the day. As I was walking past, the music was blaring and Ian Dury and the Blockheads’ Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll started playing, only to fade away a few moments later, I guess someone realized what song it was and how inappropriate it was. That made me giggle to myself.

I swear I had never seen so many combinations with chips as in this country.
A proper fair would not be complete without dodgems.
I didn’t get the chance to take a photo of the Michael Jackson plushy doll I saw in another stall because the man was standing in front of it. All I can say is that it was scary!
Here comes the tune again!
This time I saw Mini Miami, in a couple of months I’ll be seeing the real one! So excited!
How 80’s are these graphics?
It’s crazy clown time!
Chad and Lula are having a grand time on the dancefloor.
80’s fashions for the w1n! It sort of looks like it came out of the set of Valley Girls or something like that.
A palm tree. For that tropical feeling.
The pièce de resistance, the carousel.
Hope this has been enjoyable. Have a lovely Easter weekend!

Your photos are beautiful. What I really love is how your black and white photos especially catch the timelessness of a carnival. If I didn't know these were taken in 2012, I could have been off by decades. Even in the colour ones, the graphics are wonderfully timeless as well.

Obrigada! Se bem que acho que quando nos focamos assim nos pormenores, parece melhor do que é na realidade, mas é sempre divertido.

love how you've captured the fair spirit, with all its decadence, sparkling and dance-floor kitsch!
    So creative pics!
