Amsterdam part 2

August 9, 2012

On Sunday and after sleeping for many hours we got out of the house and headed to the Sunday Market at the Pacific Parc. It happens once a month and it is well worth a visit, as you can find all sorts of pretty things, mostly handmade or made by independent designers.

I bought a couple of things here and there and a few stalls caught my attention:

At Van Ikke I bought a couple of deer transfers (velour and colourful) as well as a very sweet bird brooch. All of their products are very sweet and invoke some sort of nostalgia, well worth taking a look at their website.
Next pit stop was Hotrod Hussy where you can find rockabilly style inspired accessories. I came back home with a lovely miniature pillbox hat from Daisy Lee Accessories.
I couldn’t buy it at the time but I got my eye on that pea pod dress on the left, made by lovely Lisalotte. All her designs are inspired or made after vintage patterns and they are beautiful!
We wandered about a bit more, bought Mr D’s birthday present at the Hout Couture stall and met with Leona Leppers, an artist that makes wonderful wearable art. I am saving the photos for a different post as she has gracefully agreed to do a little interview. Her work is so inspiring I thought I had to share it.

Clearly someone around here likes cats a lot.

After the market and a quick stop at home to drop off some stuff we headed to the Eye, Amsterdam’s film museum, in hopes of seeing the Stanley Kubrick exhibition. Due to a misunderstanding while looking at the opening times, it was closed by the time we got there, sadly. However, there was a reproduction of one of the ladies from the Korova Milkbar (from Clockwork Orange) outside so we took a couple of shots. We had a bit of a sit down and relax moment in the restaurant area which is quite ample, with a view to the river and visited the museum shop. We didn’t come out empty handed in the end as we both got a couple of souvenirs. I bought the Street Style Memory Game, I thought it was most appropriate!

And so I got tot he end of my last day in Amsterdam. It was great fun hanging out with my friends and getting to know a city I had never visited before. I liked it a lot and could see myself living there as it has everything I like in a city: beautiful architecture, quirky details, good atmosphere and plenty of things to do.

Goodbye Amsterdam, hope to see you again soon!
