the Old Opera House

August 14, 2012

In Arcadia, FL my husband took me to the best antique store I’ve ever seen. Not only the items there were fab, but the whole building was historical in itself. He did promise he was going to take me to the best place there and so he did! The Old Opera House is, like the name suggests, an old theater which hasn’t seen a performance in decades but now home to an antique mall. There is word of it being haunted but I didn’t see any such thing, unfortunately, as it would have added even more interest to the place. You can read more about the place and the ghost stories here.

The place was filled with all sort of objects and collectibles, mostly 20th century, but from all decades. There was such variety I am sure anyone would have been able to find something they liked.

The pink lipstick wearing Indian is too funny.

No household is complete without a lifesize effigy of the King.

Trying on the old fur cape…
The whole place felt familiar, as some of the details reminded me of my great aunt and grand mother’s apartments. I am thinking that it may be the reason why I am drawn to old things.

The side of the stage.

JFK and some books.

I was lusting after the white cowgirl boots, I have to admit.

Some more of the fun things I saw there:
I regret not buying the Star Wars glasses. I did buy a couple of things and I’ve already shown them here.
It is indeed the best place to go shopping for antiques in Arcadia as it is definitely no ordinary shop.
Have you been antique shopping lately?

That “Three Flowers Travelette” box is beautiful. What are they? Hairpins? As you can imagine, I am a huge fan of Carl Larsson!

What a great place to explore! I remember trolling craft stores with my grandmother in Florida when I visited her once. Shells, shells, and more shells! – and shark jaws?! Barbie and Ken have changed so much over the years, and the Zoltar machine scares me.
