Ebay – Yay or nay?

August 20, 2012
Katie Perry at an Australian Radio Station

I have now had my first bad Ebay experience. After 2 years of successfully using the website for all kinds of purchases, from shoes to wall suction cups and everything else in between, something was bound to go wrong at some point.

I bid on the above Wheels and Dollbaby dress and another Topshop dress from the same seller. I won both auctions at a fairly good price and was pretty excited and happy that I’d be getting both just in time for my Birthday weekend (which is the next one, by the way). Well, this is what actually happened:  I sent the payment, as I tend to always pay immediately and received a message soon after asking for the transaction to be cancelled, due to problems with the Paypal account. I did as requested and sent a note asking for an update when the problem was resolved. And I waited. A couple of days later I sent another message and waited again. Then I sent messages daily asking for an update. And nothing yet. It’s been 10 days and no contact from the seller. Mind you that this seller had 0 feedback so if bad feedback is left she has nothing to lose… So yeah, I left bad feedback on this seller and bought the same Wheels and Dollbaby dress from a different seller. Now all I can do is pray that it arrives before next weekend.

In the end of the day it wasn’t too bad, as I didn’t lose my money, it was just very disappointing, but a bad experience nonetheless.

Have you had any bad experiences on Ebay recently?

Well that's pretty annoying, but thankfully you didn't lose money!
I've never used EBay, but have used our NZ equivalent, Trade Me, for many years, and have had the odd mishap.I suppose it has to happen here and there.
That frock is fabulous, fingers crossed it arrives for your birthday!X

Sounds like she may have either wanted to sell it to someone she knew, or something serious happened to her. Most likely the first though. What a bummer, but I'm glad you were able to find it with another seller. It looks like a great dress to add some colored tights with.

I have a friend who is a mechanic on British motors and vintage classic, etc…he found a very rare clock that was to go into a dashboard on eBay motors and since he didn't have an eBay account he asked if I'd purchase it through my account. Since he'd done a lot of favors for us I didn't mind at all. I purchase it “In Working Condition” only to find out it didn't work at all. So I requested a return. Of course, he didn't want to return it even though he was selling under false information. He even yelled at me basically in his e-mail messages and then came up missing completely. He kept wanting me to settle the problem outside eBay which is exactly what they tell you not to do. He was able to “fix” his feedback scores somehow because I was locked out from even being able to. He was a tricky one!

I buy and sell a lot on Ebay, and have had relatively few problems really. I have had buyers not send the item and not respond to messages, but then you just report them to Ebay and get a refund, though it's annoying if the item seemed particularly great and a good price. My thoughts are always that they have sold it for more money elsewhere. The worst one was a leopard print faux fur which never materialised, I was gutted!
It works both ways, I had a woman return a dress for a refund as she said the measurements were wrong, if it had been the size I said it was it would have fit her. I ALWAYS measure accurately, and had even tried the dress on myself, so I know the size I listed was correct. But what can you say? I didn't want negative feedback and a big hassle.
    Them's the breaks on Ebay…
Anyway, fab dress, hope this one arrives quickly! xxxx

I've bought and sold some items on Ebay, with acceptable success, but sometimes I've been a little bit disappointed (sometimes it takes weeks to receive the item or it was not exactly what I was waiting for!)
Sometimes you just need a bit of luck!
    beijinhos & suerte
