Art is in the eye of the beholder

September 20, 2012
Some details can sometimes go by totally unnoticed. Some details can just be part of a city’s decay until you look at them more attentively. Sometimes it’s just a texture or a combination of colours. Once these are taken out of context and framed they become abstract and are no longer that old latch or doorway that has seen way too many layers of paint over the years. They become interesting and pleasant to the eye. To my eyes they do anyway. They remind me that even the ugliest thing can be beautiful, if seen from a different perspective.

These were taken on one of my latest trips to Nottingham. I hope to go back soon to take some more.

Details of what I wore on that day:
Dress – George – got it because of the little cravat, I can wear it with other shirts too!
Cardigan – Stradivarius
Tights – Primark
Shoes – Thrifted in Florida
Heart bracelet – Stradivarius
Headscarf – Vintage souvenir scarf from Rumours vintage in Amsterdam
Bag – 60’s made in Japan, thrifted in Florida.

I completely agree with you. Your photos are wonderful. And I love your outfit against the wonky houses in the backdrop.

I love your first photo. Colourful cracked paint can be so beautiful. And you look adorable as usual!

So, so beautiful!! I agree wholeheartedly with you. When I need my aesthetic fix, I try to go to a museum. Then when I leave, I see everything with fresh eyes. I remember being transfixed by an old stop sign among other things. Plus, you look ADORABLE!!

That top photo looks like a beautiful painting I'd want to hang in my living room!

Gorgeous photos, Sara – I'm sure I've said before, you've got such a fine eye. Crackling, peeling, erosion, rust – these processes can be so beautiful. If only my bathroom ceiling were so photogenic.

Your outfit is lovely with the dots and piping and especially the cravat! I need a cravat really badly myself!
