One thing that I like doing when I travel is to pick up souvenirs and things I can then incorporate into my daily life. In this case it is a Vlad Tepes t-shirt (or Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad Dracul), the Romanian prince infamous for his ruthlessness and who has given inspiration to many gruesome horror stories, such as ‘Dracula’ by Bram Stoker. This was picked up in Romania back in 2004 and it was one of my favourite trips so far. The country has beautiful landscapes and if you are a folk art aficionado like I am, you will have a great time – every city and town has a little folk art museum or the Museul Satului – open air museums where you can wander and see old traditional wooden houses.
Transilvanya, where supposedly Dracula’s castle is located (it’s not accurate though, you can read about it here) is a beautiful area with the Carpathian forest covering most of it. I swear I have never seen forests as far as the eye can see as I did in Romania. I am sure a lot of things have changed in Romania ever since I went there, 8 years is a long time and the country became part of the EU in the meantime and I hope that the country’s charm and specificities haven’t been changed to conform to the norm. Romania has been the only Eastern Europe country I have ever visited but I hope it hasn’t been the last.
What is your favourite travel souvenir?

Your Vlad tee shirt is really excellent! My favorite travel souvenir is a big cheap scarf that I bought at a tourist stand next to the Eiffel Tower. It is so outrageous and obvious with all the traditional tourist scenes of Paris. I love it and I actually wear it a lot!

First of all, that tee is awesome. Secondly, I'm going to read about Dracula's castle now. I have this weird thing/obsession with vampires. I really like them and secretly hope they exist.

Great t-shirt! Have you been to Whitby? It has lots of Dracula associations too, and it's beautiful.
My favourite travel souvenir is probably my stone cat's head from Egypt. xxx

I want to go to Transylvania too! I re-read Dracula this summer, almost by accident. Suddenly my Gothic side came back with a vengeance.

I have an absolute obsession with Romania after reading a very sensitive travel piece about the country recently where the writer and her boyfriend explored the country without any travel plans and had their best travel experience ever! I REALLY want to go!! I spotted your t-shirt in this fabulous pic and nearly fainted with desire!! You look utterly amazing from head to toe and I love the brick wall and roses as your backdrop – I miss my old rose garden:(. Big hugs, xoxoxo
I saw a documentary once on Bran castle. Did you get to go there when you were in Romania? I love the real life story of Vlad Dracul (he was so scary and crazy!) and Bram Stoker's Dracula too!
I just heard that the original Dracula movie with Bela Legosi is being remastered. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
I LOVE your Vlad tee – and it's perfect with your heart belt, skirt, matching tights, and jazz booties – fantastic!
