Brighton Gay Pride festival!

October 1, 2012

A few weeks back (time flies, doesn’t it?) I traveled down south to Brighton to meet up with friends and join them for the Gay Pride Festival. I had a wonderful time and took hundreds of photos of the parade. I managed to narrow them down to a few that I hope won’t bore you to death. I’m sure they won’t as they are so joyful and colourful. It’s nice to look at the photos and remember the great vibes from the day.

Waiting for the parade.
Cute kids.

Freddy Mercury lookalike with fake teeth!
Ambulance and Fire Department staff. There was also a police forces parade, people from all the political parties and from all sorts of companies and organizations. It is great to celebrate the freedom to be who you are and want to be! Can you believe that not that long ago it was almost illegal to be gay and proud? Read about it here on the article on Section 28. It’s only a small victory as there are still many countries in the world where being gay is still illegal and punishable by death. There is still a lot to be changed in people’s mentalities but at least one can see things evolving. There is no excuse for discriminating against gay people in this day and age.
After the parade we went around town and I finally got to see a little bit of what the city looks like. It is a beautiful city, with lots of interesting things to see and explore and beautiful architecture.

After all that walking and to stock up on some energy for the rest of the long day we still had ahead of us we went to the Blackbird Tea Rooms for some brunch. I had seen a post about this place in some blog (I don’t remember the name, boo!) and I thought we should pay a visit while there. We weren’t disappointed. The food is gorgeous in looks and palate and the interiors extremely well decorated. I didn’t take many photos as it was quite busy and I didn’t want to bother the other patrons but I definitely must go back and eat more cake and take more detailed photos!
Before heading out to the park where the continuation of the Gay Pride festivities were to be held, we walked in one of the shopping areas of the town. There was a lot of things happening as it was a very busy weekend for the city. Also if you are looking for quirky and interesting things or love to buy vintage, then Brighton is the city for you. There is a lot of colourful design shops and whole streets of vintage shops, all in very good taste.
Needless to say I wanted to buy one of these pink flamingos. What was I saying about good taste?
We finally headed out to the park and this is what I wore on that day:
Dress and Cardigan – Zara
Feather collar – Ann Summers, on sale!
Shoes – Springfield
I decided to camp it up a little with the feather collar as I had found it at a bargain price on the Ann Summers website when I was shopping for my Halloween costume (yes I already planned it, months in advance. Call me ridiculous if you like). I figured if I didn’t wear it in an occasion like this I would probably never wear it again any time soon- not really something to be worn in the office, sadly. The work environment would be a lot happier place if we could all be our own flamboyant selves all the time.
There was a definite festival feel to the event.

So we just walked around, did a little dance in the music tents and had fun people watching. There were lots of fun people in funky outfits everywhere!
Remember the Brighton Gay Men Choir float a few photos up? We found them and took photos! Fabulous, darling!
A glorious sunset sky to end a great and fun day. It was tiring but well worth it. The vibe of the whole place was just great, everyone was in good spirits and the company I had for the day – Fabio and Ricardo couldn’t have been better! The next day I went to the beach front for a little exploring with Victoria of Style Marmalade, stay tuned for those photos!

Looks like you had fun! We had a group in our local Gay Pride Parade, they were called Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They're an official non-profit group for charity to low income families, etc…but they sure can put on a show. They're dressed up as nuns but with tons of fantastic colorful accessories as you can guess.

Looks like an amazing day! Love that last photo of the carnival and that incredible sky! And your feather collar is adorable. Is it just me or did you catch a real moment there between Mr. A and Mr. Y in your photo? Looks like some serious chemistry between those two to me 🙂

What an excellent outing. The parade is very big here too, actually it's a whole week of celebrations now, but I almost got crushed in the crowd this year. You look great – love those feathers. And your hair…! Niiice.

These people parading are just giving a bad opinion about gays, their outfits and behaviors are so ridiculous…
