Feira da Ladra – a visit to the Lisbon flea market.

December 14, 2012

A couple of weekends ago I went to Lisbon for a blitz weekend. I only stayed there for a day and a half (I have already used up all my holiday for the year) but made the most of it nonetheless! Getting to the airport was tricky- there were delays but I managed to make it just in the nick of time. After all the stress to get there something really cool happened- a friend of mine was one of the flight assistants on the flight (what a coincidence!) so her boss gave me an upgrade and I flew first class. Ker- ching!! Who says karma is a b*tch?

Anyway, I spent some time with friends and the only outing I had planned was to go back to the flea market (which we call Feira da Ladra, literally Thieve’s Market), which I did. I am also preparing a post to how you my friend’s shop, but I will leave that for another day. Today I am just showing the photos I took around the flea market. I hadn’t been there for a long time (I don’t think I have been there in the last couple of years) but it doesn’t seem to have changed much, which is not bad at all. It’s still a lot of fun to walk around and look at the piles of old stuff and find treasures in the piles of junk!

I was happy to see that Piri Piri is still alive and still the same sweet dog as always! He belongs to one of the usual vendors at the market and I can’t resist giving him a cuddle every time I go there.

The Panteão Nacional (National Pantheon), in the back. That’s where all the most important Portuguese people have been laid down for their eternal sleep.

Brand new vintage shoes. All of them tiny.

A gust of wind made me close my eyes and lifted my hat. Then a car came and we were very hungry and went for lunch. No other photo was taken. Sorry!

Hat – from Amores de Tóquio (more details on this soon), Cape – Top Shop – from a trade with Lili, Shoes – River Island, via Ebay, Socks – H&M, Bag – Margiela for H&M, underneath I had this playsuit from ASOS but in black. Sexay.

You must have been wondering, what did I find? I didn’t have much time nor energy to look through everything thoroughly but on the way out I spotted this ice bucket, I’m thinking from the 50’s taking into consideration the motifs. I will be using it as a container for accessories and odd bits and bobs!

Do you have a flea market you visit regularly?
