Office Looks – Totally Inappropriate looks for the office

September 9, 2013

As it has become a habit, here is another installment of Office Looks. This time the main theme is band tees. I am not wearing the same on both looks but the idea is similar. Band tees/ logos are probably the only brand logos I don’t have a problem with. Maybe this is because I’ve always worn band t-shirts since I was old enough to go to a shop and buy my own clothes. At the time because as with all teenage kids, wearing a tee of your favourite band told the world who you were – punk, heavy metal, whatever. I also like to buy band tees when I attend shows- It is a nice way of supporting the band as I rarely buy albums these days.

This brings me to the logo discussion: I like designer clothes as much as the next person but I am not too keen on paying to advertise someone else’s brand on my chest/ bag/ whatever. Although there can be exceptions if a logo for example is actually graphically interesting, I find that the whole logo culture is quite boring and uninteresting. For the majority of cases, it appeals to individuals who are more interested in flaunting how much they have spent on their clothes rather than their taste.  This reminds me of the trend in some circles, of wearing expensive items and leaving the tag on them to show how much it cost. It is of very poor taste, not to mention stupid, as it’s not that clever to throw your money out unnecessarily. To me it also shows lack of imagination, with so many nice things you can pick up to make you look individual, why wear something like that? I await your two cents on this matter. In the meantime, here are the outfits!

Outfit details: Bow – H&M, Black Lace Blazer – H&M (on sale), Baby Pink Tutu Skirt – Olsenboye at JC Penney, Joy Division Tee – Ebay, Green Bag – Target, Grey Tights – Primark, Hearts and Stars Shoes – Office (via Ebay), Metal Bow Bracelet – H&M (on sale)

Outfit Details: Cats Head Scarf – Zara, Denim Jacket – Blanco (swap with Lili), Die Antwoord Tee – Ebay, Leather Look Skirt – American Apparel (present from my friend Linda), Red Shoes – From a Chinese shop in Lisbon, many years ago.

Happy Monday everyone and don’t forget to join the party over at Patti’s Visible Monday.

I am with you on the logos – not my cup of coffee at all (well a discreet “Chanel” on my bag would be fab, haha). Love your tulle skirt! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

Completely agree with you, logos are for people with no imagination who need to fit in. Mind you I hate to see people wearing band tees just to be cool, ask most teenagers to name a member of The Ramones or a song by The Smiths and they look at you like you’re deranged.
    Fab outfits, as always! x

I am a fan of those outfits!! I can’t stand brand names visible on my clothing either. It’s so weird to me, especially if it’s the name of a store and not a widespread brand like American Eagle or Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch. I’m like… hm, yeah, you shop there… and then… and then????

Ooo fab outfits, love the Joy Division tee & the AA pleather skirt, you look great in both outfits! As to logos I’m sort of eh. Some things I don’t mind like my vintage & newer Gucci handbags — they wear like iron (have some that are over 40 years old!) and I quite like the styles as they don’t hurt my back. The newer ones I have the logo is more discreet as well since its tone on tone. Some I just think are aesthetically ugly, but I’d definitely take a Chanel any day! So I guess for me its not a matter of showing how much I spent on something (hey most of my vintage Gucci’s were under $20, one cost $1!) On clothing, nope hate logos unless, like you, its a band or someplace special to me (like my ancient now vintage CBGB tee). I always thought idiots that kept the tags on were going to try & return them after wearing them! (Its done all the time, they just dry clean, then return after wearing them.) Oh well, to each their own, I guess that’s what makes life so interesting! XXX

I’ve given in to wear Prada glasses so I am displaying that logo all the time now.

I used to have this old t-shirt with the picture of a DJ in the buff (bum exposed) advertising a radio station. It was so soft and comfy. I think it finally was hijacked – the image was so offensive.

i am totally with you all the way! it still amazes me that so many of my friends wont buy from charity shops and are kind of incredulous that most of my stuff is thrifted….i adore the original stuff i get, I never look like anybody else when i go out and i hate logos and branded stuff to be honest! x

Could you be any more adorable? Love it all, especially the black lace blazer with the band tee, but glad to have you remind me I gotta go dig in the closet for my black tulle skirt that I didn’t have the guts to wear last year. It will happen this year, and online!
I agree completely with you about fashion brand logos … if I’m going to wear anyone’s initials they’ll be mine. I’ve never seen the appeal of wagging around a Coach canvas tote, or worse, a knock-off Coach canvas tote with everything one owns. Whether it works or not.
The one exception is the Louis Vuitton lace hand fans that were around a couple of years ago. The logo lent itself to the lace and I thought they were beautiful. Way beyond my pocket, but lovely.

Your outfits are both so cool, and I just love the purple and black and white shoes! So cute.

I agree with you on logos. I think they actually look tacky. But I’d love to have a band T-shirt – I’m thinking about looking online for a Led Zeppelin one. Or B-52s. And I will wear it to the office!

Totally agree with everything except that these outfits are inappropriate for the office! They’re fabulous. Thanks so much – loved this post.

No to logos, I really don’t like them, or what it says about the people who display them. Items which are well-made and excellent quality, which happen to be made by a high end brand, are fine, if that’s your thing, but it’s interesting that some people want everyone else to know what they are wearing, or what they have paid!
These are such cute outfits, Sara, both skirts are lovely, and the band t-shirts look cool! xxxx
