Made in Portugal 1

December 20, 2013

I was lucky enough to have my company fly me to Lisbon last weekend to attend the office’s Christmas party there. What a privilege! It was great to go to the party and I was also allowed to stay longer to spend time with husband, family and friends. However, every time I go back to my country I feel sad because everyone seems to be depressed and with a high amount of low self-esteem. If you have been paying attention to the news you will know that there is a financial crisis going on there at the moment and austerity is the Government’s response to it. This means a decline on the quality of life as well as opportunities and worse than that, a general demoralization of the whole population.

Portugal has so many good things for us nationals to be proud of, that also people in other places should be aware of. If you think there isn’t anything of interest being produced in my country, think again! For that reason I am starting a series of posts about the good things about Portugal that everyone should know about!

One of the high quality products we have available are the textiles. For that reason, high end brands seek our industry as our factories specialize in high quality products. Check out Urbanara’s really interesting video about this here.

I remember when I mother was still alive, that we always bought home textiles made in Portugal for this same reason and I want to continue the tradition. This website has products that are Made in Portugal and that can be ordered online. I may start doing my shopping there from now on.

This sounds wonderful, I will definitely check out the website. Have always wanted to go to Portugal. To Porto and see the blue tiles, love them so 🙂 Such a shame when places have to have these worries while other countries or government people sit in financial excess. There is most definitely enough money and resources to help people out even if they say there isn’t. I would very much love to have more Portugal posts here, I love learning about places 🙂 And hopefully one day I will get to see it for myself :)) Have a lovely weekend lovely Xx

It is so sad to see how people are taking the whole economic crisis. I wished the Portuguese were a bit more optimistic to be honest, and not always carry that ‘why me’ attitude. I am very proud to be Portuguese, as you know, but I hate the whole Portuguesiness that means that they can be cleverer than any one else – and the whole gaming the system thing. Kills me.

As for the made in portugal thing, huge supporter. I bought a pair of new pyjamas in France (very nice) and I looked at the label – said ‘designed in France and Made in Portugal’. I was like, hell yeah.

I used to study in Lisbon and there are many many things I love about the country! Textiles is definitely one of their strong features and the gastronomy. Hope the flight tickets from holland become cheaper because that’s the only thing stopping travellers to visit portugal more!
