Second hand Rose, with pride.

#secondhandfirst

I’m wearing second hand hats
Second hand clothes
That’s why they call me
Second hand rose

Unlike what Barbra Streisand’s song might say, there is nothing wrong or sad about buying second hand. I do it frequently (hello Ebay, my old friend) and would do it more often if I wasn’t trying to avoid shopping.

There are several things to be said about second hand shopping:

  • It is fun, nothing like the thrill of the hunt for bargainous stylish wares.
  • You find items that no one else will have.
  • If you buy vintage, chances are that the fabrics and the way thy are sewn are a lot better quality than what you can buy nowadays.
  • It’s good for the environment, as there will be less used clothes going to the landfills and less pollution produced as a result of constantly making new items.
  • Tends to be cheaper.

I don’t always get to find everything I like or that fits my vision for a style second hand but I always try it first! #secondhandfirst

I have in the past shared many outfits that included second hand items. Here’s a small selection for your enjoyment.

Of course it isn’t bad, it’s a brilliant way to shop! I wouldn’t do it any other way. xxx

The best!! I honestly feel like it how we will all have to do the majority of our future shopping… Sustainability 🙂

I’m with Becky! Sustainable shopping choices include the #secondhandfirst sensibility, and man you wear it well. Beautiful post- you should be the poster child for awesome thrifty and sustainable style!

You lovelies who manage to dress in such a sustainable way have my complete admiration and support. Good for you. And you look adorable in every shot. You’d be one-of-a-kind anyway, but your styling talent elevates everything you wear.

Modern clothing is so shoddily made that I wouldn’t entertain the idea of buying new. Wearing something manufactured in a sweatshop is far, far worse than buying someone else’s cast offs plus , if its vintage, it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever bump into someone wearing the same as you.
Love that orange and red dress! xxx

I love second hand shopping. There is also that potential thrill attached to “what if I find an amazing bargain!”, like searching for treasure.

I love thrift shopping. It just makes sense you know? But here, it isn’t always the cheapest shopping option. Most of the time, I have better luck just going to a retail clearance rack.

I’m with you 100% on every point! Been doing it close to 40 years and still have some of those early purchases, you just can’t beat the quality that went into even what then would have been called “fast fashion”! Have been staying away, as like you I have a lot of culling to do, but did score a Norma Kamali tee shirt dress for $4 a few weeks back! (one of my fave designers, who actually makes quality made goods that last forever & I have pieces from the 80s to prove it!) Perfect for summer & I even layered it up during one of our “polar vortex” days! Love you! XXX
