Streams of consciousness

My lovely therapist told me to start painting again. I obliged, if only once since he asked me. I can understand how art is very therapeutic, it really works. Mind soothing, even. Concentrate on the paper and the colours and shut up all the noise in your head.

Mr D and I went to the store and bought all the materials and as you can see a bottle of wine as well. I just dabbed some watercolour on paper one night. Creating something can be a dirty process, in fact, it almost always is. Especially if you are messing about with paint and paper.  As the watercolour wouldn’t dry I left it. The next morning I picked up the pencils and lines started appearing as I motioned it over the previous night’s coloured shapes, no real thought given. A bit like apparitions, directly from my subconscious. A suspicious looking rabbit, a vomiting cat and some random faces is what came out of it. Feel free to interpret them as you want, because I have no idea.

The act of creating is a great way of shutting out that pesky & persistent head noise, I would go as far as to say that it is the best approach for someone who struggles to still their mind. A few years ago I was advised to take up meditation to regain focus and break the negative thought pattern cycles I was plagued with at the time but I just couldn’t chill out enough to actually get into it and that just further added to the negative vibe I was feeling. Sewing and making jewellery was/is the best therapy for me.
I really love your suspicious looking rabbit, vomiting cat and random faces.
Keep on painting and creating my love <3

Your art is incredible, you are so talented and I’d love to see more of your work.
Jennie’s right, creating is great therapy, a great way of focussing your thoughts and channelling your tensions into making something lovely. My patchwork curtains were how I stayed sane when my Mum died! xxx

Beautiful art doll!! I couldn’t go a day without art in some way or another…it’s my escape and release to create. I don’t get as much time to do it as I’d like with a family, but when I do I feel tons better. Keep doing it doll, helps so much Xxx

I love your drawings in combinati0n with the water colours. I couldn’t possibly interpret them – but they are wonderful, and if the act of creating helps, then do it, more! xxx

definitely believe art can be therapeutic and i love what you created. it’s something i need to make time for because when i start i love creating something, doesn’t matter what but i rarely really make time for it

Art or the act of creating something is very satisfying for me. I’m no artist (my daughter got that talent), but I do like to create things and often feel “off” if I don’t. Love your doodles & the process you used, first with the watercolour then the drawing — the bunny & cat are great but the random faces make me smile! XXX
