Things to do in London – Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, London’s Cat Cafe

Last weekend I finally went to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium. I say finally because I’ve been meaning for a while but as you need to book it in advance it had been difficult to find a date to go. A couple of months ago finally found someone willing to come with me – and had to book it two months in advance, as weekend bookings are harder to come by. It’s a pain but it’s understandable, the animal’s well being is the most important thing and of course, you can’t have an overcrowded tea room with cats thrown in.

Unfortunately the cats were mostly being.. cats and snoozed most of the time but we still managed to have a laugh during the hour we were in there. Ate Guinness chocolate cake, drank tea, took silly photos and looked at cats which is what you want to do for fun, right?

Upon arrival you are given a set of instructions – you’re not allowed to pick the cats up, feed them anything or badger them if they’re asleep. This seems pretty sensible to me, as cats no matter how docile they are can get annoyed and cause trouble. We were shown to our table downstairs and perused the menu – there are several things available, from cake to sandwiches and even goulash. As for drinks, there’s plenty of variety of teas, coffee, hot chocolate as well as soft drinks. As soon as we decided what we wanted we made our order and went on to pester cats for pictures while we waited for our food to arrive – you are allowed to move around if you want.

We had our food, drank our tea and the staff were very accommodating towards our photography needs – they even took a pic of us in front of the sign, something to show the folks back home, you see. The prices are affordable and you need to pay an additional £6 cover charge per person on top of your bill, to help with the cat’s expenses.

You can book a visit to Lady Dinah’s in their bookings page. If you fancy walking by and taking a peek in the window, you can find it at

152-154 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 6DG

I’m loving the cat pictures. “You will regret touching me, hooman!” is just brilliant. If you happen to go again, give me a shout – I’m looking for fellow crazy cat people to go with too!

How fun! We have a cat café here in San Diego http://www.catcafesd.com/ but I’m afraid to go because the cats are all up for adoption and I just know I will have to bring one home and Pancake will not stand for that. He’s such a bossy dog.
