As some of you may have noticed, the National Portrait Gallery opened a new show last week, showcasing the best of Vogue magazine: Vogue 100 – A Century of Style ((11 February – 22 May 2016). I haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition yet but I had a chance of seeing a preview of the merchandise and designers that are going to be available in the exclusive exhibition shop.
I have to say that I loved most of the items on display and would have brought them home in a heartbeat. Starting with Kate Mabon’s Kiss Me Quick Scarf, all the way to the Lulu Guinness clutches.
The laser cut perspex jewellery designed by Patricia Nicholas had a surrealist vibe to them, in my opinion. Isn’t it great when art and fashion collide?
We were treated to some super cute biscuits by the Biscuiteers – an edible Vogue cover with our own name on it. How cool is that?
I also got to try the lipsticks by Lipstick Queen and a manicure courtesy of Essie.
Some of my favourite items have been the Art Deco illustrations, that were printed on several objects, including cushions. Actually, these might have been my favourites, as I had a look around the web for further information on these illustration artists. One of my favourites is Eduardo Benito, a talented Spanish fashion artist who moved to Paris at the young age of 19 and attained popularity in his time. His stylised faces are reminiscent of Picasso, Brancusi and even Modigliani, but have an extra element of chicness that these other artists didn’t have. He was a fashion artist and this was Vogue magazine, after all.
There are also plenty of photo books available – and really good ones.
All of this happened to the sound of a great playlist – can’t go wrong with some 80’s tunes and a DJ in drag, right?
