Bake your perfect man for Eurovision night

May 13, 2014

IMG_9147

It was Eurovision night and me and my friends were planning a party. Perfect opportunity to have a good laugh baking and decorating the perfect house husband for us. We were definitely up for some good cheeky fun!

So, I dressed up for the occasion – I have to feel fabulous no matter the occasion! – got the ingredients ready and set out to do some baking for the big Eurovision night. To keep things simple and make sure things went well, I used the recipe on the back of the cookie cutter package.

Ingredients you will need for the cookies:

  • 180 gr butter
  • 100 gr sugar
  • 300 gr flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Instructions:

Measure all the ingredients and mix them in a bowl. Start with the butter and the sugar, follow up with the flour. When it’s all well mixed, add the salt and the vanilla extract. Wrap the dough in cling film and throw it in the fridge for an hour. Once an hour has passed, rescue it and roll it between 2 sheets of greased paper. Apply the cookie cutter to the dough as you can see in the picture:

Once you have a baking tray full of them, heat up the oven to 180 degrees and put them in there for 7-10 minutes. As they are oddly shaped, it might be difficult to bake them all at once.

Here they are, all nice and golden, ready to be decorated into the perfect men.

We got a bunch of decorating supplies and got to work! Filipa is looking very concentrated.

And here’s the end result: a guy for every taste. Some beach bums, a naked bear, a Portuguese hunk, some S&M gay dudes and the fellow from the Specials.

NOM!

I received the cookie cutter as a sample, if you want to get your own, you can find it here.

PS: Conchita won, wooo!

Another set of photos of an outfit I wore to work recently – another inappropriate look for the office, I would say.. David kindly took these, again on our walk back into town. Every time I wear this dress I feel like my boobs are looking at people. Funny feeling, that is.

I also did some experimenting with the photo editing on Photoshop, what do you guys think?

Details: Ears jacket – Ebay, Cat Dress – Topshop (from Ebay), Collar – H&M, Tights – Falke, Shoes – Irregular Choice.

As this is Monday, I’m linking up to Patti’s Visible Monday. Have a nice day!

Carousel

April 21, 2014

IMG_8438

As it usually happens about twice a year or so, the carnival came to town, with all its lights and entertainment and as always, I managed to walk through it for some photos. This time my friend David was with me so I got to pose with the carousel for a couple of shots!

Although I’m not that interested in the rides and the such, walking past it and seeing all the people – the families with their kids, the awkward teenagers in small groups looking lost and self conscious, the occasional chavs – is an interesting portrait of small town England. I kind of feel like an outsider so I turn to doing sociological observations of these events. It’s fairly interesting.

This was one of the days that I feel like I got dressed with my eyes closed. I didn’t but I did get dressed in a hurry and just grabbed whatever was handy. It’s not so bad, or so I keep telling myself.

Details: Coat – Zara (from a swap with Lili), “Best” Beanie – Neiman Marcus x Target, T-shirt – Roy Lichtenstein, Tate Modern (from a clothes swap), Skirt – American Apparel, Tights – Oxfam, Bag – Traditional from Morocco, Clogs – Irregular Choice, Necklace – c/o Name The Necklace, Long Sleeve – H&M

What I wore in Lisbon

April 16, 2014

Some of it, anyway. After a while it got a bit boring to take outfit photos in a hurry because it was raining or the light was too crappy… I thought I should relax and not think about it instead. Here’s the few I did register.

IMG_8151

As you can see, we got totally caught up in the rain. I am drenched and huffing and puffing too, as climbing the stairs up to the 6th floor is no easy business. Details: Green cardigan – Zara, Dress – sample, c/o Dorothy Perkins (from the vouchercodes.co.uk event), Necklace– c/o Name the Necklace, ShoesMatalan , Nail Wraps – Machesa Fashion for L’Oreal

I bought this jumper because Mr D’s grandparents back in the US have an adorable hairy chihuahua named Lovey. I miss them so it helps me remind me of them. Details: Cardigan – Zara, Skirt – Monki (swap with Lili), Hairy Chihuahua Sweat – H&M, Glitter shoes – Springfield, Hair Bow– Matalan

The light was fading fast on this one, even the details came out awful, but I have to show you my Star Wars tee. I just love it. Details: Green cardigan – Zara, Star Wars Tunic – H&M, Leggings – Tezenis (I had to pick them up in a hurry when I realized I couldn’t bend without showing my arse to the world haha), Necklace– c/o Name the Necklace, Shoes – Matalan.

Bonus: my very first video. Just some outtakes of Mr D and I walking around, the rain and some more rain. The music is by The Japanese Girl and you can download the whole album for free.

Floppy hats and bell bottoms

I’ve always thought the 70’s got too much of a bad rep. Yeah, sometimes the home decors were a bit too brown and some clothes a bit over the top and in a bad way. I still don’t think we should throw away a whole decade because of a few faux pas. I mean, why do we think we are so stylish? I always wonder what our descendants will say about the see-through legging trend… I sincerely think it’s a lot worse than many of the 70’s styles. When I look at the Cholas by Irregular Choice (worn below), all I can think of is 70’s. Look at them and at the amazing shoe adverts below. Aren’t they amazing?

To what I believe was my workmates amusement and giggles, I wore this 70’s style ensemble to the office, complete with the I-can-barely-walk shoes. I still like the outfit though… Mind you that I had to keep the hat in place with my hand as the wind never stopped. I realized that is why I rarely wear it!

Details: Hat – H&M (also worn here), Shirt – Stradivarius, Furry vest – Primark (also worn here), Green Jumper – Zara, Cords – Vintage White Tab Levi’s, inherited from my great aunt, Bangles – Poundland (classy, I know), Bag – traditional “choukaras” bag from Morocco worn as a clutch, Shoes – “Cholas”, by Irregular Choice

IMG_8427

There’s a funny story about this bag. When I went to Morocco I decided I wanted to try and find a bag just like the one I’d been playing with at my grandparent’s when I was a kid. It was a bag someone had brought back from Morocco for my Mum back in the 60’s but somehow I have no idea what happened to it. It didn’t take too long. One day as I was walking down the souk I found it and of course, I had to get it.

IMG_8434

Yup, they’re real white tab Levi’s.

How about you? Do you like 70’s style?
