I love fancy dress parties and it’s my opinion that I don’t go to enough of them. However, if any opportunity presents to dress in a fun way, I tend to grab it. Tickled Pink put out a fancy dress styling challenge and I obviously had to take it! As it’s time to get all Christmas-y, I picked a Crimbo themed outfit. Or is it?

It all happened at the office party

December 27, 2013

This year I attended not one but two office parties, to contrast with previous years, that I attended none.

Like I mentioned before, I was sent to the office party in Lisbon, under the theme Dinner with the Addams Family. I had to dress up, of course and given my already existing wardrobe, I picked Wednesday Addams.

The event was held at a very beautiful old palace, with lots of trompe l’oeil on the walls as well as hand painted tiling, that was built in the 16th century. What a lovely place!

We also had a photobooth and the zombie girls made an appearance!

So did Freddy Kruger, who won best costume of the night.

We rock ‘n’ rolled all night and partied every day.

The second party I attended was last weekend, back in England. This time the theme was Fire and Ice. It was a pleasant evening, especially because some of my friends from the Lisbon office were also there. I went home early though and that was a good idea as it seems that after a certain time a few people drank too much and caused a disturbance.

I even had a spot of dancing! How unusual, these days.

I found this beautiful dress at the River Island website when I was researching some unexpensive dresses for an article at work. I was smitten and attending this party was the perfect excuse to actually buy it. It was reduced from £110 to £60 and it was money well spent, as it feels so luxurious and vintage. I feel like I’m in the Great Gatsby!

Great movement!

I think I finally managed the smokey eye makeup, thanks to youtube. (headband – Dorothy Perkins, earrings – Internacionale)

I hope you are having a great festive season. Thanks for looking!

The dream of the 90’s

November 11, 2013

Last Saturday I went out with some friends to an 80’s and 90’s disco. This was a local thing, organized to raise money for charity. It was a bit quiet and we left soon after the band played but we had a good time and danced a little bit. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to wear the hideous jacket Mr D found in a thrift shop in Florida, that I thought it was too bad to leave behind – plus it only cost me $1… Although I was wearing this as fancy dress, I’m sure it would be a success down in East London lol.

The photo isn’t brilliant but it’s what we could manage, after a few attempts. Details: Jacket – Thrift store in Florida, Sweatshirt – Boy London (from a charity shop), Skull leggings – TK Maxx, Shoes – Office (via Ebay), Matrioska Bag – Accessorize, Golden Hoops – Ebay. I remembered on the same day that I was missing some sort of cap with metal plaques and a miniature backpack to complete the look, but alas, it was too late!

As per Amy’s suggestion, I tied my hair in a double bun. I’d never done it before, it has to be said. To complete this post, a 90’s remix is in order. Enjoy!

London

She’s in parties

August 14, 2013

And oh my what a party it was! Last weekend I traveled to London to attend Jayne’s birthday party at Roadhouse in Covent Garden and it was great fun. Jayne had decided we should all be dressed in tv or film characters so we all went in fancy dress.

Jayne looked amazing in her Poison Ivy costume. No wonder she is a beauty blogger, she is great with make up! If you want to look at her page, she blogs at Jayne’s Kitschen.

We rode the train in our costumes and we got lots of attention (some of it unwanted, who needs dirty catcalls? Boo!)

We finally made it to the venue and some more people were waiting for us. The place is quite big, has a huge bar, a wide selection of cocktails (and a happy hour until 7:30) and a live band. I spent the night drinking Strawberry Daiquiris and it was good. The decoration is a mix of Americana (lots of neon signs from gas stations and the such) and varied motifs on the projections – some with pin ups and others like Kraftwerk above, having fun fun fun at the autobahn. It was lovely to meet some of Jayne’s friends and a few giggles and a bit of a dance was had by everyone.

This one was taken at the end of the night as I was feeling a little bit chilly. So, this is what I wore to the party. Mask, Asos skirt, black peter pan collared top and Dr Martens boots, all via Ebay, bag from Target. I was called Batgirl, Catwoman… but none of those guesses were right. Can you guess who my character was? See it after the jump!
