Pure London overview

February 14, 2014

Last weekend I attended Pure London, the UK’s main fashion trade show, where brands and designers show their wares to potential buyers and stockists. It’s a professionals only event and I was invited to come and see what was going on by Mod Dolly, who was showing AW14/15 at the New Brits section, supported by the UK Trade & Investment. This event was held at the Olympia and saw thousands of people come and go.

Mod Dolly’s lookbook for AW14/15. I’ve seen the whole collection and trust me, there are some yummy pieces in it! Here’s a sneak peek. Ssshhh, don’t tell anyone.

Bicycle print and sequins – my eyes always get drawn to these things!

Bursts of colour everywhere.

Sweetness…

Pure London

The most unusual shoes in the whole show by Julian Hakes. Shoes designed as a work of engineering/ architecture. I’d love to try them on.

Met two lovely ladies for the first time – Adora from Adora Mehitabel and Tara from The Style Rawr. We all did a fun photo at Blogbranch‘s photobooth.

<b>My favourites:</b>

There were a few Portuguese brands showing their wares at the event and my favourite was Ruga – lots of colour and the boots below: both of them are gorgeous, the glitter and the furry ones…. and I was told they had them in more colours. Oh dear… there goes my bank account…

Snarling lips by MissCo Girl – attitude! Taking the lips purse to the next level.

Olivia Burton‘s vintage inspired watches.

Thanh Cong Vu Studio – We’ll be hearing more about this up and coming designer. His gowns are absolutely gorgeous…

My absolute favourite bag of the day- The cat bags by Larissa K. I will have to own one. Not only they are cute but they’re also versatile, as you can exchange the flaps! What a great concept and very nice ladies – I even saw the photos of the cats the bags were inspired on. Swoooooon!!!!

As we are on the subject of cats: how amazing is this collar? The other side has little hearts too. I nearly died when I saw it and all the cat themed items from Sugarhill Boutique! I’m sure it’ll be selling like hotcakes – all my friends loved it too!

The Zatchels pastel satchel bags… I’d like one of each please, for each day of the working week. they look great and they’re made in the UK!

I think I should also mention Nooki Design. I ended up not taking a photo, which was really silly of me but I got so distracted by the cuteness of their bunny clutches that all rational thoughts were just gone. click on the link and you’ll see what I’m talking about…

I hope you liked this little tour as much as I enjoyed the event.

Have a great weekend!

Meet and Greet – Ros Webb, fashion illustrator

February 12, 2014

I have never met Ros Webb in person but I can tell she is a very lovely lady, not to mention talented. That’s why after a brief chat on Twitter and looking at Ros’ work I invited her to participate in the Meet and Greet feature as I am sure it will be of interest to everyone reading HTM. Enjoy!

How long have you been an illustrator for and when did you decide that is what you wanted to do?

I started out as a fashion designer but I always loved fashion illustration , I even remember collecting images as a child . After my career as a fashion designer I had three children and working a 20 hour day at the studio was a physical impossibility so I set myself up a small art room in the house (that was suppose to be a walk in wardrobe) and set to work creating the images I love. That was about 10 years ago and it has blossomed and progressed and the more I produce the more creative I get.

Who is your favourite fashion designer?

I don’t have a designer that I love above all others but there are a few that always really appeal to me and their designs are something I get a strong urge to paint.
I love the decadence of Dolce and Gabbana they have a beautiful Italian edge to their designs, I also love Vivianne Westwood , I love they way she brings haute couture to everybody and keep that freshness in her creative spirit, I love a lot of the old style fashions from the 1950’s , like Christian Dior, they really appeal to the way I paint.

Where have you been published and where you would you like to be published in the future?

In the past I have been published in Vogue , Marie Claire and Elle with my fashion designs , I have done many illustrations for fashion blogs and also many children’s book illustrations, and various on line magazine websites.
For the future I would love to have my work in Italian Vogue, its a goal that I’m working towards.

What is the advice you would give to anyone wanting to pursue an illustration career, particularly in fashion?

The advice I give anyone looking to pursue fashion illustration, practice, practice , practice! does make perfect, develop your style, borrow from others but remain true to your own self, don’t be afraid to experiment, and always peruse what you truly love eventually it will serve you well

An hour to kill at… the V&A – London

February 10, 2014

I just spent a lovely weekend in London, attending Pure London (more on that later in the week). I found myself with some free time on Saturday and decided to stop by at the V&A. There’s always someting interesting to see, not to mention that the Museum is so big, I haven’t had the chance to see it all. So that’s what I did.

When you go in, you have a suggested donation for £3.00 but you don’t have to pay if you can’t afford it. Even if you did pay, a £3.00 ticket is a pretty good price for a place where you can spend the whole day… to me this is a perfect budget day out in London. I wandered around aimlessly, it was a good experience because you end up being surprised. I hope you enjoy the little things that caught my eye.

15th century love token jewelry. Some things never change, isn’t it?

Iranian tiles.

Elsa Schiaparelli

Elsa Schiaparelli (with me on the reflection)

Christian Dior

Balenciaga black and white polkadot dress.

And then I was kicked out. Next time I find myself in London with nothing to do, I am definitely going back.

Closest tube station: South Kensington

Visit to ASOS HQ

November 27, 2013

If you didn’t miss Monday’s post, you will know I went to the ASOS HQ last Saturday to an event that was part of the Access All ASOS program. As promised, I am sharing the photos I took of the quick visit we did around their offices, located at the Greater London House. I didn’t take any photos of the building myself but do have a look, it’s a feast for any Art Deco fans and cat crazy people such as myself.

ASOS is a company that has been established not too long ago, in 2001. It is now one of the main online fashion retailers in the UK and ships worldwide, bringing fashion for all tastes and wallets to women and men worldwide. I really liked visiting their offices, I wouldn’t mind working in a place like this, surrounded by beautiful clothes and shoes all day round!

I’m a sucker for colour and embroidery so this really caught my eye.

Mood boards everywhere!

I shook my little tush on the ASOS catwalk.

ASOS Wall of Models.

My favourite section – The shoes!

Apologies for the crap photos… I only had my phone on me when I was whisked away to do the guided tour. Hopefully there will be more opportunities in the future to take better photos *hint hint*. I am very happy to be part of the ASOS Insiders group, it’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone taking fashion and blogging seriously and all I can say is a big THANK YOU to ASOS!
