Hot weather in London

July 22, 2013

Here’s the remainder of the photos of my latest weekend in London. It was great fun and although it was a bit too hot, we managed to do a lot of things.

The morning was spent at the Victoria and Albert Museum, for the David Bowie is and the From Club to Catwalk exhibitions. Both were brilliant, will write a bit more about them in a couple of days. The afternoon was spent finding the Temple Church and at the Embankment park, where we stretched our legs in the shade for a couple of hours. The weekend felt like a mini holiday and it was great to see my friends from Norway. Here are the photos for your enjoyment.

Here are some photos of the Temple Church (and here). This was a church that was built by the Knights Templar and a very interesting place to visit. The  Knights Templar were one of the most important and powerful organizations in medieval Europe, until they fell from grace in a series of trials involving accusations of devil worship, homosexuality, among others things. If you don’t fancy reading historical essays on the issue there is always Umberto Eco’s Foucault’s Pendulum, in which the Knights Templar are important characters. Quite entertaining.

As you can see on my photos, there is a series of wacky faces all around the circular room. I have no idea why they were made with such grotesque expressions, but I thought it was pretty funny. I have visited many churches in my life and seen many faces on their walls but none have ever been like these!  The statues on the top right of the collage are of Templar knights and you can read a bit more of the history on the church’s website. The Temple Church must have been extremely important in London, as the whole area seems to revolve and be named around it – Temple tube station, the Temple Chambers, etc.

Lovely gate with Pegasus medallions. It reminded me of one of my favourite cartoons when I was a kid – Luno. Do you remember Luno?

Chillaxing at Embankment park. Dress – BCBG Max azria (via TJ Maxx), Shoes – Peacocks, Hair Flower – H&M (on sale)

I am adding this post to Patti’s Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style as well as Shiny T Tuesday at Flight Platform Living . Have a lovely week everyone!
