We’re up all night to get lucky

Here are some of the looks from the week I spent in Florida. I better crack on with posting the photos of the trip… I have so many! It’ll be hard to pick a few for the blog. It was an amazing week, with equal parts of relaxation and excitement and of course, spending time with the hubby.

As I was planning, we did a couple of road trips (we ended up going to Disneyland, yay!), picked up the new album from Daft Punk, and it became the soundtrack for the week. I loved the songs, they have a very amusing and “feel good” retro feeling. It might not be for all tastes and a lot of people were disappointed as their sound on this record is totally different from their previous more electronica sounding albums. For my part, as I’ve always had a weak spot for disco, I appreciated the grooves on this record. The Get Lucky song just makes me want to dance! These dudes do it the right way:

Poetry, right? haha. Anyway, I wish I could go to good thrift stores / charity shops more often. One of my latest finds is, I think, from the 70’s and cost me £1 from Age UK. They’ve been doing a pound shop recently and they rarely put up anything retro but this one must have escaped the no old clothes policy they seem to have.

If you look at the nails you’ll see that I’ve done them in several colours, in the outfit’s colour scheme 😀

And that’s what I did the other day, with my newly acquired Jika – Tabi shoes I got from Ebay! Have you ever heard of tabi shoes before? They look bizarre don’t they? Some people commented they look like hooves, others were just perplexed and looked at me like I am crazy and it didn’t matter explaining that they are actually quite common in Japan. That’s right, they’re actually common work shoes in the land of the Rising Sun! They were invented in the 20th Century but were modeled after the traditional tabi socks, that divide and separate the big toe from the rest of its toe brothers. In case you are wondering, they are quite comfortable but would be best worn with tabi socks underneath, not tights like I did.

I was so happy to finally receive the shoes that I wanted to wear them the next day so quite unusually, I planned my outfit the previous night and drew it on the computer:

Boy London

Who remembers Acid House and all the paraphernalia that came along with it? The baggy clothes, the smiley face tees and the Boy London clothes? I know I do!

For those who don’t, there’s a fantastic documentary about that Summer of 1989 that’s well worth watching at at the end of the page. I found the Boy London sweatshirt at the men’s section in a charity shop on my scavenging trip to Stamford. when I saw it all the memories of watching music videos at the time and the style in them came flooding back. So I brought it home and obviously it contaminated my whole outfit the day I wore it to work:
