Share – In – Style – Flowers

April 12, 2014

I was well chuffed when Sacramento invited me to style an outfit for this month’s Share-In-Style. This month the theme is Flowers and it was a bit of a tricky one to do as I am not usually a florals kind of gal. But, as I have way too many clothes, I managed to find something and do a bit of a floral overkill haha.

Here is Sacramento herself, the queen of pattern mixing, in all her floral glory. Note how sunny it is around where she lives, in Spain.

And this is my contribution to the equation. Observe the drabness of the light and the colours. Not good. Where’s the Spring we have been promised?

Black Market Clash

September 25, 2013

Black Market Clash is a pop up store that opened in London, more specifically on Berwick Street, in the Soho area. The store is dedicated to the legendary punk band The Clash and features amazing memorabilia, some installations by the band members and great merchandise you can buy and take home. It closed on the 22nd of September (the next day) so unfortunately the report comes in a bit too late. At least I hope it is useful for those who couldn’t make it as I took a fair bit of photos that I am sharing.

Last Saturday when I got to London and met up with Suzanne of Idee Fixe who was visiting from NYC, the Black Market Clash pop up store was the obvious choice of what we were going to do for our afternoon together. Suzanne and I have conversations on Skype every now and then and it was lovely to spend a couple of hours in the flesh.

What we found at the pop up store was even better than I imagined:

I’m all lost on the supermarket…

The records hanging from the ceiling belong to the band members and are influential records to them.

Some posters, instruments and their cases and stage clothes were on display.

The legendary cover photo by Pennie Smith and the bass guitar being broken in it by Paul Simonon. I was flabbergasted at this point.

The original sheet with the lyrics to London Calling.

The event was sponsored by Fender and some lads were playing along with the songs. I thought that was a nice touch.

Here’s Suzanne….

…. and here’s me!

There was a lot of merchandise on sale – T-shirts, cds, vinyl records, totebags, posters, postcards, all sorts. I decided on the Complete Control tee (the only one sized for ladies, I’m afraid) and a tote bag for my growing collection.

And just in case there are doubts that we were there, we took some photos at the door:

After we saw the exhibition and bought a couple of bits and bobs there we proceeded on our exploration of the area. We ended up stopping for lunch at Soho diner and had some nice food and a bit of a sit down.

Classy! Ron de Jeremy is now available to be purchased in liquor stores near you.

I didn’t take a full outfit photo but I can tell you what I wore, you can see bits and bobs of it on the photos. The head bow is my usual one from H&M, the grey jacket is H&M but I got it from Ebay. The embroidered sweater I bought it on sale at Primark and I think it is lovely, I really like embroidered textiles. The dress is vintage handmade and I got it from the flea market in Lisbon. Unfortunately I won’t be keeping it as it doesn’t fit properly- the waist size is perfect but it was made for someone with some more boobage than me. If you have an 8/10 size waist and like orange drop me a line and I’ll gladly send it to you. The orange tights are from Calzedonia and the Green shoes from Office, via Ebay.

Is that doll head creepy or what?

Unfortunately we didn’t get to take a photo with the both of us in it. We were just walking around and talking and having fun so it kind of slipped my mind. Suzanne really is a special lady and it was a privilege to have met her in person. I hope that we can meet again some time in the future! Make sure you have a look at her blog here.

Office Looks – Totally Inappropriate Looks for the Office

August 26, 2013

How are you guys? Nothing better than doing an Office Looks post while I’m on holiday. That’s right, by the time you read this, I’ll be sat on the beach 😀

The theme this time is pattern mixing and on two very different looks. Which one is your favourite?

All of the items in this ensemble have been around for a few years. The top and skirt are from H&M, the sandals from Swedish Hasbeens, for H&M and the red bow on my stripy top is from Springfield.

This was one of those ideas that looked better in my head than the actual outfit but I still went with it anyway. I’m all about experimenting! Both the shirt and the trousers are stripy, although it’s not that apparent due to the glare. The shirt is Diane Von Furstenberg and I picked it up for something like 2 dollars ina charity shop in Florida. The trousers are Ralph Lauren and I got it from TJ Maxx, also in Florida. The bag in turn I got it from TK Maxx, here in the UK. The scarf is vintage and was a present from the lovely Andrea from Teetoo. The accessories are a mix of Matalan (that I got for the makeover photos) and gifted by another lovely Canadian, Ariane from Style Sud Est. The shoes are Modekungen and were one of those purchases that although it wasn’t on sale, I had to have them…

I did a matching manicure!

I swear it doesn’t get any better than these perspex heel shoes! They are quite surreal. I am joining the party over at Patti’s Visible Monday, as it has become a habit I don’t want to quit!

I thought I was the only one.

June 26, 2013

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”

C.S. Lewis

… and that’s precisely what happened with Andrea of Teetoo. I found her blog through Elycia’s by mere chance and added her immediately to my favourite blog list as we seemed to share several interests – the biggest one I noticed at the time was the love for the band the Pixies, which is one of my favourite bands ever since I was a kid. Anyway and to make the story short, we started chatting and emailing each other and discovered so many things in common, not only in tastes but also life story that it was uncanny. We must have been sisters in another life, I tell you! As Andrea is in Canada, we still haven’t met in person but we sent each other a parcel of joy and agreed we would only open it when we got a chance to get together on Skype. And that’s what we did. I saw Andrea and her kids, we chatted and giggled for a couple of hours and opened our presents. All of the things Andrea sent me was spot on – our tastes are so similar in so many things it would be hard to be disappointed.  Right now as I am writing this I am listening to the mix cd Andrea sent me and trying to guess the artists. So much fun!

Andrea is also very talented: the little plushy snow man you see here was handmade by her and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The skull lady and the little owl cards on the bag were drawn by her and they are sooo cute!! You can see what Huggables are available on Etsy if you want one of your own.

Apart from what’s on the above photos, Andrea also sent me a lovely vintage scarf, which I wore the very next day to work. I’m a sucker for head scarves!

Outfit Details: Head scarf – vintage, present from Andrea, Peplum Top – Target (from my last trip to Florida), Trousers – Zara (on sale, from my trip to Belgium), White Pleather Jacket – H&M (got it second hand from Sara of the Good the Bad and The Ugly), Shoes – Office (via Ebay), Bag – from a swap with Lili

Thank you Andrea, for all the lovely things and for being my friend. This is what I would call blogger love. One day we will definitely have to meet. Don’t forget to check out what I sent Andrea on her website.
