Pure London overview

February 14, 2014

Last weekend I attended Pure London, the UK’s main fashion trade show, where brands and designers show their wares to potential buyers and stockists. It’s a professionals only event and I was invited to come and see what was going on by Mod Dolly, who was showing AW14/15 at the New Brits section, supported by the UK Trade & Investment. This event was held at the Olympia and saw thousands of people come and go.

Mod Dolly’s lookbook for AW14/15. I’ve seen the whole collection and trust me, there are some yummy pieces in it! Here’s a sneak peek. Ssshhh, don’t tell anyone.

Bicycle print and sequins – my eyes always get drawn to these things!

Bursts of colour everywhere.

Sweetness…

Pure London

The most unusual shoes in the whole show by Julian Hakes. Shoes designed as a work of engineering/ architecture. I’d love to try them on.

Met two lovely ladies for the first time – Adora from Adora Mehitabel and Tara from The Style Rawr. We all did a fun photo at Blogbranch‘s photobooth.

<b>My favourites:</b>

There were a few Portuguese brands showing their wares at the event and my favourite was Ruga – lots of colour and the boots below: both of them are gorgeous, the glitter and the furry ones…. and I was told they had them in more colours. Oh dear… there goes my bank account…

Snarling lips by MissCo Girl – attitude! Taking the lips purse to the next level.

Olivia Burton‘s vintage inspired watches.

Thanh Cong Vu Studio – We’ll be hearing more about this up and coming designer. His gowns are absolutely gorgeous…

My absolute favourite bag of the day- The cat bags by Larissa K. I will have to own one. Not only they are cute but they’re also versatile, as you can exchange the flaps! What a great concept and very nice ladies – I even saw the photos of the cats the bags were inspired on. Swoooooon!!!!

As we are on the subject of cats: how amazing is this collar? The other side has little hearts too. I nearly died when I saw it and all the cat themed items from Sugarhill Boutique! I’m sure it’ll be selling like hotcakes – all my friends loved it too!

The Zatchels pastel satchel bags… I’d like one of each please, for each day of the working week. they look great and they’re made in the UK!

I think I should also mention Nooki Design. I ended up not taking a photo, which was really silly of me but I got so distracted by the cuteness of their bunny clutches that all rational thoughts were just gone. click on the link and you’ll see what I’m talking about…

I hope you liked this little tour as much as I enjoyed the event.

Have a great weekend!

DUO boots are fabulous

October 9, 2013

Last week I was kindly invited to along with a few more bloggers to exclusively preview the new party collection DUO is launching for the festive season before they hit the stores. I figured that the combination of shoes, London, and the possibilities of meeting some interesting people and winning a great prize was too good to say no to. So I made a little mood board including my favourite pair of shoes from the collection (you might have seen it here before) and off I went to Covent Garden, right after work.

Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile and a glass of bubbly and I immediately got to chatting to the other bloggers there. It was fun trying to match up the outfits on the mood boards to the bloggers and I was happy that find that people quite easily matched me up with mine.

After a couple of drinks and a few nibbles we all sat around the store to hear fashion journalist and stylist Laura Puddy and Jem McNulty, Head of Design at DUO tell us a few things about their careers and the brand. Both ladies have many years of experience working in different areas of the fashion industry and I always find it fascinating to hear the path people take to arrive at a place where they are happy with what they are doing.

I have to say I was very impressed with the brand. I didn’t know about them before and that might have been due to the fact that this is a traditional British brand that only more recently started making fancier shoes, as they are better know for their good quality boots.

I was very impressed because this is a brand that is interested in catering to real people. And how do I know that? Well, they have 21 different calf sizes on their boots and 3 different widths of shoes.

(Is it just me or these shoes look like farfalle? I think about food too much haha)

I was even more impressed when I had a chat with Jem, the Head of Design and was I told all their shoes are made in Portugal. So here is a traditional British brand that is made in Portugal. Perfect marriage I would say! I felt a bit proud, I have to say. It is a bit silly but when you live away from your country it’s little things like these that make you proud.

They also gave me a pair of shoes of my choice from their current catalogue for me to try out – I picked these purple Elisha booties with a cute bow. Aren’t they sweet? I had to wear them as soon as possible so when I went to Newark for the day on Saturday I took them out for their first spin.

What I wore them with: Vintage 70’s Style Dress – Ebay, Fur Gilet and Tights – Primark, Ring – Ebay, Bag – Ahcahcum Muchacha, BootsElisha by DUO, Nail Polish – Assortment of H&M, Ultra Pro, China Glaze and Essie.

Aren’t they the cutest? I’m very happy with my new booties!

I added my post to Shoe Shine over at Citizen Rosebud’s blog, the place to be for shoe lovers of all sizes and ages!

PS: No financial compensation was received for this post. A complimentary pair of boots was offered by DUO and the opinions expressed are my own.

These boots were made for walking…

August 20, 2013

Haaaa the end of Summer. The temperature drop we had in the last few days got me thinking about Fall clothes and about wrapping up in warm and fluffy wool jumpers.I am enjoying the nice warm weather but that made me think about what to wear when it gets chilly. I tidied up my closet the past weekend and went through my shoe collection. Seeing that I now live in a country where the past few Winters have been quite harsh, I noticed that I don’t seem to have near enough boots to my liking. I had a look around here and there and although the boots in the shops are nice, I want something different. So I started doodling and thought – What if we could have the crazy boots we always dreamed of?

So I came up with some fun (and funny) designs and thought how amusing it would be to design footwear for some of my blogger friends. They may not like them in the end but they really were the inspiration behind some of these:

The Circus Boots

These would be made of red matte leather and the stars could maybe be silver or white patent leather. I thought they would be perfect for Desiree of Pull Yr Socks Up. I can see her rocking these with one of her tutus!

The Attitude Boots

Black leather, of course, with silver buckles and silver spikes. A bit too much for me but I thought they would be the boots I would buy Suzanne of Idee Fixe if I ever had to pick a pair for her.

The Grey Velvet Boots

Imagined these for Vix of Vintage Vixen, a very glamourous lady indeed. The yellow should be more mustardy and the green leaves should be embroidered on grey velvet. They may look uncomfortable but they would look fab if they were real.

The Divoon Orange Boots

These would go to Helga of Helga von Trollop, of course. I can see her wearing these with one of her fabulous capes and her beehive style do. I haven’t decided if I want them in patent leather or just regular leather. Either way, those bows would look amazing.

The Navy Boots

And these are for me, thank you very much. As I’ve said countless times before, this is one of my favourite colour combos.

Now all we need to find is someone to make these for us. And not too expensive, please! Which one is your favourite?

Thrift shop

May 27, 2013

I’m gonna pop some tags
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket
I – I – I’m hunting, looking for a come-up
This is fucking awesome

Macklemore – Thrift Shop

This silly song should be the thrift/charity / op Shopping anthem. You don’t believe me? Check out some more of the lyrics:

They be like, “Oh, that Gucci – that’s hella tight.” I’m like, “Yo – that’s fifty dollars for a T-shirt.” Limited edition, let’s do some simple addition Fifty dollars for a T-shirt – that’s just some ignorant bitch (shit) I call that getting swindled and pimped (shit) I call that getting tricked by a business That shirt’s hella dough And having the same one as six other people in this club is a hella don’t.

Poetry, right? haha. Anyway, I wish I could go to good thrift stores / charity shops more often.  One of my latest finds is, I think, from the 70’s and cost me £1 from Age UK. They’ve been doing a pound shop recently and they rarely put up anything retro but this one must have escaped the no old clothes policy they seem to have.

Expensive car, cheap clothes.

Deets- Dress – probably 70’s, thrifted at AgeUK, Carnaby Boots – Irregular Choice, via Ebay, Bag – Ahcahcum Muchacha, Coat – Zara (swap with Lili), Cardigan – Zara (sale),  Big Ass Beads – Thrifted from British Heart Foundation, Wooden Bangles – thrifted from several charity shops. If you look at the nails you’ll see that I’ve done them in several colours, in the outfit’s colour scheme 😀

I is classy, posing in ASDA.

Have you made any special finds recently?

Office looks

April 27, 2013

As posting outfit photos hastily taken at the office parking lot is somehow becoming a bit of a habit, I thought I’d inaugurate a new Saturday feature called ‘Office Looks’, in which I share my totally inappropriate looks for the office. Like I said last week, I dread the day I will have to tone down my outfit silliness for the sake of work. For now and while I can, I’ll make the most of it.

As the weather is finally getting nicer, I thought I’d share the last of the Winter looks I have shot by Frankie, my lunchtime photographer so next week I can move on to nicer weather gear. The common theme with this one is obviously the jacket. It is grey as the weather and I like it a lot,  I’ve been wearing it quite often.

Details: Jacket – Zara (trade with Lili), Jumper – Gharani Strok (via TK Maxx), Skirt – H&M Trend (via Ebay), Boots – Office (via Ebay), Bag – Target (from my latest trip to Florida), Beret – It belonged to my Mum in the 80’s.

The boots are really high and I can’t walk all that well in them – although they are marked my size, they are a tad too big. Sadly, I may have to let them go because of this. If you wear a UK size 6 and are interested let me know as they might fit you properly. I think Vix has similar ones in grey. (Oh, and they are black, although they look midnight bluey on the photo – I wish!)

Details – Jacket – Zara (trade with Lili), Dress – H&M Trend (via Ebay), Bag – Target, Tights – Primark, Boots – Irregular Choice (via Ebay), Scarf – Vintage Souvenir from Rome scarf,(thrifted in Florida)

How crazy are these? One of the silliest pair of shoes I own. And you know I own quite a few…

Anyway, I hope you like this new feature. Which outfit is your favourite?
