Glamming up the goth

March 19, 2014

Glam goth

Last Sunday the weather felt so nice that I decided to bare my legs a little. Not too much, only a little, but it felt soo nice. I am hopeful that we will have a nice warm Spring and Summer and that the sandals won’t have to stay in the loft until next year. I went to Matalan the other day, as I had a gift voucher to redeem as well as extra discount and ended up spending a bit more than I was supposed to- I see what they’re doing and it’s working on weak people like me. But I brought home these sandals and the golden hearts necklace with me. the sandals were already 50% and I thought it would be an unexpensive way to try the strappy sandal trend. My feet can be really sensitive and there would be no point in spending a fortune in something that would just cut through my flesh.

My photographer Filipa was at home that day so I had to make do with the tripod and the self timer. I have to say that I wasn’t too happy with the results, plus our back garden is looking a bit drab these days. I did some editing on the images to try and make them look a little bit better. I think I have succeeded in making them look somewhat more interesting. What do you think?

I’m loving the softness of this silk cardigan. I really should invest in good quality pieces more often!

I’m going home a week from today, for a week. I can hardly wait…

Care Bears

Care Bears

And I am back! After being extremely poorly for a couple of weeks (trust me you’ll want to be spared the details) which culminated in a blogging absence, I am now back. I have a lot of new things to show you and I may even have a couple of extra posts this week, as I missed out on some work I should have done last week. Thank you so much to all of you who messaged me and were concerned – it means a lot! You know who you are, special props to all of you from the bottom of my heart. You are real life Care Bears.

Care Bears

To prove that I am feeling much better, I am posting the photos Filipa took this last Saturday, when we went out for a spot of shopping in town. I had a Matalan gift voucher to use and some extra discounts to use, so I went along. And I failed on my objective to not buy stuff. But… I did use the voucher and the discount and as soon as I got home, I filled another big bag with clothes to donate. Trust me, I’m getting rid of a lot more than I brought in. So yeah, I failed but I’ll get back on track, I’ve been behaving a lot better as a whole. I don’t know why I failed but it must have had something to do with being ill and all that… makes you feel like pampering yourself a little. Or so I tell myself. Regardless, I’ve been doing pretty well until now and getting a lot more conscious about what I want to wear and look like than before.

Care Bears

Without further ado, here’s what I wore: Bears Cardigan – C/o Just For 5 Pounds, Skirt – Ebay, Shirt – Made by my great Aunt, Tights – Oxfam (I think), Ring – Gifted by Oh La Lali, Shoes – Office, via their outlet on Ebay, Bag – Paul Frank (I’ve had it for years and got it from Ebay at the time), Hair BowAlternate Normality (from the Blogcademy goodie bag).

Care Bears

Right now I’m sooo excited for the arrival of Spring, I have so many plans! How about you?

Where the wild things are

Where the wild things are

There’s a creature hiding in the woods. Is it a nice creature or will it come and eat your heart? Not all creatures are bad, I think.

Pastels – How to Wear Spring

February 3, 2014

I’ve complained before that I tend to wear too much dark or bright colours. When I was challenged to try the Fondant Pastels S/S14 trend by Most Wanted, the lifestyle magazine from the UK’s #1 voucher site, VoucherCodes.co.uk, I said yes, please.

I was given a budget of £80, to spend on the high street and get as many discounts as possible, using vouchers or shopping the sales. I then had to combine the acquired items with my already existing wardrobe and come up with a few looks, wearing the pastel trend my way. I managed quite a few key items as not only I found pieces that were already on sale but I also applied an extra 20% discount voucher at ASOS.

The first look I did was totally girly girl and perfect for the weekend. I had this adorable mint coloured mini cape in my closet for years. I bought it in Lisbon years ago but never got around to wearing it. Now I have other stuff to wear it with, as I never really wanted to pair ir with dark clothes.

Moz, always close to my heart.

Chunky Beret HatASOS (£5.00), Mint Mini Cape – H&M, Long Sleeve Pink Top – Primark, Morrissey Necklace – Spitalfields Market in London, Cambray SkirtAmerican Apparel via ASOS (£35), Tights – H&M, Pink Polkadot Shoes – Irregular Choice (via Ebay)

I thought I’d make another look with the skirt as it is a very versatile item – I suspect I’ll be living in it over the warmer months! This time I thought I’d add a splash of neon, which is an option if pastels are too bland for you.

Perfect outfit to go out touristing, so comfy!

Head Band – Gingham fabric from local fabric store, Cambray Skirt – American Apparel via ASOS (£35), Ribbed Crop Top – H&M (via Ebay), Long sleeve Top – Primark, Camera – Fuji Instax, Camera Bag – Ebay, Shoes – Springfield, Neon $ BeltRiver Island, via ASOS (£3.00)

This is the naughty secretary/ librarian look. The look of the kind of girl that looks very innocent in her saccharine coloured outfits and black rimmed glasses but it’s only just deceiving (I digress and no, I’m not talking about me).  The chain for the glasses will be a practical and welcome addition to my working apparel and more so if I really was a librarian.

A pair of coral flats tie the whole outfit together.

Just a little detail of the beautiful deer ring my friend Ohlalali gave me last year. It’s from Irregular Choice and I think about her when I wear it.

“Which documents should I be filing next?”

Oui/Non Glasses Chain ASOS (£2.50), Tights – Ebay, Pink Bow Playsuit ASOS (£18.00), Shirt – Thrifted in Florida (cost me a dollar or so), Coral FlatsTimeless via ASOS (£10.00)

The last look is an evening look. I don’t really do the shorter than short skirts and the towering high heels when I go out (I want to be able to walk back home haha) but I do the glitz.

“It’s too cold outside, I want to stay here, wrapped up in my coat”

White Furry Coat – Ebay, Pink LurexDressMiss Selfridges (£22.00), Tights – H&M, Shoes – Springfield.

As you can see, you can spice up your wardrobe with the latest trends as there are loads of bargains to be found. Don’t forget to check vouchercodes.co.uk for extra discounts, as there are always new discounts and promotions being added.

PS: Post made in collaboration with vouchercodes.co.uk

PS 2: photos by Filipa. Thanks to Rebeca for helping out!

Morocco outfits

January 27, 2014

Hi guys! I still have lots of interesting things to say about Morocco so I thought I’d get the outfits out of the way, all at once and progress to useful guides and suggestions posts next. I’ll be writing about nice places to see, fun things to do and delicious things to eat, so stay tuned.

Dress – Alice Temperley (via TK Maxx), Scarf – Zara, Belt – Primark, Shoes – Carvela (via TK Maxx)

I had plenty of orange juice while in Morocco, it was everywhere, it was delicious and it was dirt cheap!

Moroccan leather slippers – present from my in-laws. I love the hearts and stars on them.

Dress – Nishe (blog sale), Cardigan – Primark, Scarf – Oscar de La Renta (via TK Maxx), Leather bag – thrifted in Oxfam.

More orange juice! I love the scarf, it was a present from Jo at Fe-line.

A comfortable outfit – Coat – H&M (via Ebay), Shirt – Alice Temperley, Polkadot Jeans – Lavo Jeans (both via TK Maxx), Glitter Trainers – Springfield

I look a bit disheveled, this was taken right after we visited the hammam, the Moroccan spa. It was bliss, I must say. Polkadot Red Dress – H&M (via Ebay), Tshirt – Primark

Stars nail wraps from Nail Rocks.

Dress – From Camden Market

Dress – H&M (via Ebay), Tights – Ebay, Turban – Lomography shop in Lisbon

I love the little birds and the cages on this dress. It’s too adorable.

Almost at the Sahara Desert!

So these were my holiday outfits. I hope you like them.
