DIY – Plimsoles Painting Pollock Style

Sometimes you just need to do something creative to unwind from daily life, even if it’s something as simple as personalising a pair of plimsoles. Fat Buddha Store has a wide variety of art supplies (as well as clothes) and sent me these Posca markers to play with. They can also be used in a variety of surfaces and are not necessarily indicated for fabric but as they won’t be going in the washing machine anytime soon, I thought it was worth a try.

Challenge accepted!

June 14, 2013

I have to say that I rarely pick clothes for other people but it was something I thought could be an interesting and fun exercise. It’s always different to imagine an outfit with a different taste and body type.  For that reason I engaged my friends Daniela and Filipa for a photoshoot with photographer David Bridle. Once again the collaboration with The Boutique, proved invaluable as Debbie graciously lent us a couple of items to use. I really enjoyed dressing up the girls and I look forward to more fun days like this.

DANIELA

Daniela asked me to pick an 80’s Madonna inspired look and the big numbers top from The Boutique was just perfect. Add a lot of bracelets and wild hair and it’s done!

“Well, recently I had the most amazing experience. Since forever, I always wished to be Madonna for one day. Take her glorious and crazy days from her and apply it on me. At least, look wise! 🙂

My friend and stylist Sara D has invited me for a private photo shoot and let me tell you that it has been fantastic, to say the least. She was able to choose the right clothes, accessories and hair style in order to get me “striking a pose” with all its potential.

I said to Sara that all has been fabulous and I am certainly repeating the experience. Although we are friends, Sara has shown me a professional side that has swept me away. I am now a client as well!

Thanks Sara. You were spot on. I certainly feel like a Diva now! :)”

FILIPA

Filipa didn’t ask me for a theme in particular but I thought we could try a few things she would never pick up herself. The polkadot top from The Boutique was one of those things and I think it is a winner!

“I’m not the flowery, big bold patters or bright colours type of girl. But, leaving it all in Sara’s hands has allowed me to try new things and I can say I was gladly surprised with the results achieved. Flowers in the hair are definitely a look to repeat 🙂 The clothes chosen were really nice and I absolutely loved the sequined shoes. Than you Sara for this experience.”

Inspiration – Poly Styrene

March 15, 2012

Poly Styrene was the fabulous voice of punk band X-Ray Specs and possibly the best Punk female voice. She was not only a great voice but also her style stood out as it was so different from what every other punk band was doing at the time.

See for yourself what I am talking about, in this fun video from 1978:

As someone wrote in the comments section on youtube “Timeless classic from a timeless album written and sung by a teenage Irish/Scottish/Somalian prodigy in? braces and her Grannys hand-me-downs.” That pretty much sums it up and even though Poly lost the battle against cancer last year, great talent and style never dies and is never forgotten.
