Have you met Hana?

A couple of weeks ago I finally received through the post the much awaited book titled “Hana. A world entire.” by Hagar Cygler. I had been eagerly awaiting its release since I participated in the crowd funding project something like a year ago…

I first heard about the project on the Advanced Style blog and fell in love with it. I had to help make it happen! I have to say that I am very proud to have been part of it and I believe that this financing model is great – if there are enough people interested, things will happen.

So what is this book about? It’s about Hana, a fun loving lady from Tel Aviv, who started recording her outfits on film, many years before the internet existed and the whole world was doing it on a daily basis. Hagar Cygler, a multimedia artist also from Tel Aviv, came across these photos while perusing a flea market, purchased them and went on to try and find who this lady was. Hear it from Hagar herself:

I am in love with this book and with Hana, it’s a beautiful homage to her, and as she is no longer with us and left no family, it ensures she won’t ever be forgotten. Thank you Hagar for putting this project in motion and showing Hana to the world.

It’s crazy clown time

A couple of weekends ago I went to Nottingham and saw that the circus was in town. Obviously it had to be the backdrop for an impromptu photoshoot, as I know that many of my blogger friends love the circus theme as much as I do. It was called American Circus but according to the mixed licence plates I saw, it was anything but American, only the decoration! anyway, I had to have a little wander and see the trailers and trucks. Nothing like some decorated trucks to cheer oneself up, especially if Clint Eastwood and Pam Anderson are on them.

Second hand Rose, with pride.

March 20, 2014

I’m wearing second hand hats
Second hand clothes
That’s why they call me
Second hand rose

Unlike what Barbra Streisand’s song might say, there is nothing wrong or sad about buying second hand. I do it frequently (hello Ebay, my old friend) and would do it more often if I wasn’t trying to avoid shopping.

There are several things to be said about second hand shopping:

  • It is fun, nothing like the thrill of the hunt for bargainous stylish wares.
  • You find items that no one else will have.
  • If you buy vintage, chances are that the fabrics and the way thy are sewn are a lot better quality than what you can buy nowadays.
  • It’s good for the environment, as there will be less used clothes going to the landfills and less pollution produced as a result of constantly making new items.
  • Tends to be cheaper.

I don’t always get to find everything I like or that fits my vision for a style second hand but I always try it first! #secondhandfirst

I have in the past shared many outfits that included second hand items. Here’s a small selection for your enjoyment.

Where the wild things are

Where the wild things are

There’s a creature hiding in the woods. Is it a nice creature or will it come and eat your heart? Not all creatures are bad, I think.

Too much stuff

ASOS Bowtie and Shirt

I’m still battling the huge amount of clothes I own. So far all is going well on the plans for not buying more clothes – I got some gifts and did some swapping but other than that I’ve been behaving very well. I have separated a whole bag of clothes I would like to get rid of. I am now separating the ones that are OK and that I’ve never worn before, so I can donate them. These trousers is one such example. Thrifted them a while ago at Oxfam, never wore them until this day. They are now going back to the charity shop as only items I’d see myself wearing again will remain. Although I still like them and they got many compliments at work, I don’t like them enough and stuff needs to go! (I was even asked when I was going to do my music video, although I’m not sure if that was a compliment). Stay tuned for more clothes-I’m-getting-rid-of blog posts.
