The Summer is currently in full swing, at least by the calendar as some of these days have been anything but summery. That’s London, I guess. To make us forget about the occasional greyness, Debenhams organised a beach party at their Head Office in the Warren Street area. I had never been there before and I have to say that the building is very impressive! After riding up on a glass elevator – something that’s always fun to do, no matter how old you are – We were directed to a terrace where we met a display of cool shoes by Call It Spring, colourful inflatable decorations, manicures by Essie and a peek at what’s going to be available in the next season.

November 24, 2014

Last week Clarks unveiled what their SS15 collections are going to look like: great styles for men, children and of course, the ladies. I was particularly excited to see the Orla Kiely collection (pictured above) and it did not disappoint: elegance, quirkiness and comfort. I have taken a few photos of my favourite styles and I’ll show you the ones I’ll be keeping my eye out for.

“How many shoes do you have?”

July 2, 2014

This is a question that I’ve heard a million times, to which I don’t really have an answer to. One thing is certain: I have way too many shoes and have been getting rid of some. I estimate that I must have gotten rid of about 50 pairs, over the last few months. I still have plenty left, worry not.
To try and answer this question without having to unpack all my shoes and count them one by one, I can at least show my Irregular Choice shoes. You see, recently I participated in the #irregularchoicechallenge over at Instagram, which consisted in wearing a pair of Irregular Choice shoes every day until you ran out. I did that and there is the result:

At least we now know that I have some 60 pairs of Irregular Choice shoes. As for the rest, that might be a task for some other time. If you are an Irregular Choice nutter like me and have Instagram join the fun!

Made in Portugal – Shoes Closet

April 22, 2014

IMG_8230

As you know and seen before, I like showing quality items that are currently being made and designed in Portugal. Well, this last visit I had a very pleasant surprise: Shoes Closet! I didn’t know the brand and wasn’t at all aware of its existence but was drawn in very quickly when I accidentally wandered in to their concept store at Embaixada (a sort of mini luxe shopping mall with new brands and designers in the Principe Real area).

I was attracted by the shoes and then by how nice everyone was. I spoke to the sales manager Gisele and she showed me the collections and explained the inspiration behind them. I was even shown a sneak peek of some boots that weren’t yet on the shelves. I was given permission to take photos and rearrange the shelves if necessary. They were all so nice and the shoes so amazing I decided I would do a blog post just dedicated to the brand. That’s what you get for being so nice!!! (unlike other people but that’s another story).

The brand not only prides itself on the craftsmanship that’s a staple of Portuguese shoe making but also on our cultural and historical roots, using traditional fabrics and patterns in some of the collections. The fabric you see is called chita, a word rooted in the sanskrit chintz, as it was brought back from India in the 17th Century to Portugal, where a local version started being produced.

Buying a pair of shoes here is buying something unique and very Portuguese. You can’t buy them on the internet just yet but according to the website, that option will be available very soon.

London

Pure London overview

February 14, 2014

Last weekend I attended Pure London, the UK’s main fashion trade show, where brands and designers show their wares to potential buyers and stockists. It’s a professionals only event and I was invited to come and see what was going on by Mod Dolly, who was showing AW14/15 at the New Brits section, supported by the UK Trade & Investment. This event was held at the Olympia and saw thousands of people come and go.

Mod Dolly’s lookbook for AW14/15. I’ve seen the whole collection and trust me, there are some yummy pieces in it! Here’s a sneak peek. Ssshhh, don’t tell anyone.

Bicycle print and sequins – my eyes always get drawn to these things!

Bursts of colour everywhere.

Sweetness…

Pure London

The most unusual shoes in the whole show by Julian Hakes. Shoes designed as a work of engineering/ architecture. I’d love to try them on.

Met two lovely ladies for the first time – Adora from Adora Mehitabel and Tara from The Style Rawr. We all did a fun photo at Blogbranch‘s photobooth.

My favourites:

There were a few Portuguese brands showing their wares at the event and my favourite was Ruga – lots of colour and the boots below: both of them are gorgeous, the glitter and the furry ones…. and I was told they had them in more colours. Oh dear… there goes my bank account…

Snarling lips by MissCo Girl – attitude! Taking the lips purse to the next level.

Olivia Burton‘s vintage inspired watches.

Thanh Cong Vu Studio – We’ll be hearing more about this up and coming designer. His gowns are absolutely gorgeous…

My absolute favourite bag of the day- The cat bags by Larissa K. I will have to own one. Not only they are cute but they’re also versatile, as you can exchange the flaps! What a great concept and very nice ladies – I even saw the photos of the cats the bags were inspired on. Swoooooon!!!!

As we are on the subject of cats: how amazing is this collar? The other side has little hearts too. I nearly died when I saw it and all the cat themed items from Sugarhill Boutique! I’m sure it’ll be selling like hotcakes – all my friends loved it too!

The Zatchels pastel satchel bags… I’d like one of each please, for each day of the working week. they look great and they’re made in the UK!

I think I should also mention Nooki Design. I ended up not taking a photo, which was really silly of me but I got so distracted by the cuteness of their bunny clutches that all rational thoughts were just gone. click on the link and you’ll see what I’m talking about…

I hope you liked this little tour as much as I enjoyed the event.

Have a great weekend!
