Things to do in Brighton

October 2, 2013

Last weekend was spent by the sea in Brighton, with my hubby and it was lovely. I really didn’t want to leave! Brighton has so many things to see and do, if you choose to travel there for a “dirty weekend” or just to enjoy the sights. If you are lucky it will be sunny and you can also enjoy a bit of relaxation on the beach, listening to the sound of the waves. I arrived on Friday night and left on Sunday and although we didn’t get to stay for too long, it was enough to see and do a few things. Here’s a few illustrated suggestions of what you too can do:

You can walk along the beach and take in the views of the sea.

Enjoy the lovely architecture on the sea front. Mr D and I are Art Deco aficionados so we end up playing ‘Spot the Art Deco Building’ game.

Watch the seagulls. There’s so many of them everywhere and they are very lively!

Go on the ferris wheel to enjoy a whole new different perspective of Brighton, narrated by Steve Coogan. It cost us £18 for the both of us but as it wasn’t too busy we got to go around a few times and you get to see stunning views like the one below:

Go walking on the Pier (seen above) and get some candy from the old little shops. I love the fact that the quaint shops and the whole structure are still original.

Have your fortune read in the tarot cards while sitting inside a gypsy cart.

Take time to wander the streets and lanes. There’s plenty of interesting details everywhere as well as all types of shops and foods.

Visit the Royal Pavilion, built in the Indo-Saracenic style that was popular in India throughout the 19th century.

Walk around the Pavilion, enjoy the lovely gardens and see the little animals.

Enjoy the beautiful and colourful flowers in the gardens, before visiting the Brighton Museum & Art Galleries. More on that on my next post.

Say hello to nice and beautiful kitty cats. As a future crazy cat lady this is obviously a point of attraction.

Look for the interesting graffiti scattered around town. There’s lots of beautiful street art everywhere!

If it’s sunny, lie on the beach and take a nap. It’s the best way of recharging your batteries ever.

Look for the pretty pebbles at the beach.

Buy a colourful plastic toy to take home with you as a souvenir!

We didn’t want to leave but the time came eventually. Before you do, take some time to appreciate the beautiful 19th century iron work on the train station’s structure.

There is plenty more to see and do, if you have more time. There are lots of restaurants and bars, with affordable choices that won’t leave you wanting for more. Have you been to Brighton yet? What is your favourite thing to do there?

Summer in the city

July 1, 2013

Last Saturday I joined my friend Iryna for a shopping trip in Nottingham, as we are picking an outfit for her stage performances with her band, MuHa. It was a lovely day out, the sun was shining (for most of the day), we talked giggled and looked at clothes. I also treated myself to a sushi lunch at Bonzai, it was tasty!

Balloon man even posed for the photo!

Lately I’ve been enjoying photographing people on the street. This time I was walking and this guy caught my eye, I thought he looked good and had a nice smile. I asked if he minded if I took a photo and he said yes! Turns out his stage name is Bright Lite aka Block, he’s a hip hop artist and gave me one of his cds. Thank you! You can find him on Facebook  and Twitter if you’re curious.

Beautiful red strawberries. Summertime is my favourite time of the year.

We stopped for a lemonade. It was delish!

Moo! Details – Jacket – Primark (on sale), Skirt – Ebay – Bag – from a swap with Lili, Orange Cardigan – H&M (via Ebay), Black Tshirt – H&M, Loafers – Pull and Bear, Name Necklace – Christopher James of London. Funny story about the necklace (you can see it below), I ordered it and requested for the name on it to be Hello the Mushroom. Unfortunately that was too long for the cutting machine so I just had to settle for plain old Sara.

Found this amazing jacket at Oxfam. Unfortunately it was too big. I loved the golden trim on the lapels and the embroidered detail on the pockets. As I couldn’t buy it I thought I’d register it for posterity.

After Iryna left I went to the Nottingham Contemporary gallery, for a really good exhibition, The Universal Addressability of Dumb Things. It has to be one of the best shows I’ve seen there, featuring a collection of seemingly random objects, curated by Mark Leckey

Just a little sample. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend a visit. See some more of what’s on show here.

After all of this, I sat in the sun for a bit and it felt fantastic, see the happy face?

I am adding this post to Patti’s Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style. Have a lovely week everyone!

A weekend where Robin Hood used to dwell

June 28, 2013

Last weekend was a really busy one. I now find myself wishing for a weekend spent at home, with no commitments of any sort. Not that I’m complaining but I need some relaxation every now and then (who doesn’t?).

It all started on the Friday, as I headed to Nottingham to meet my friend Ben and work with him on the social media and blogging aspects of his developing business Sushi Night Fever. I gave him my two cents and I am very curious where he will take them. I wish I could do this for a living.

Anyway, as I had to wait for an hour at the train station, I was feeling increasingly restless and bored. For some good 10 minutes I was by myself in the waiting room at the train station -that’s when I decided to take my outfit photos right there.

“Yes, I’m on my way!”

Details : Dress – Vintage, from a second hand shop in Brussels, Tights – Primark, Shoes – Office (via Ebay), Necklace – Hello Kitty at Sephora, Black hair Bow – Dorothy Perkins (on sale)

The Sun graced us for a few minutes here and there. Better than nothing I suppose. Too bad I didn’t get to see the Solstice sunset though.

Girls out on a hen night.

That day we went to the movies and watched Behind the Candelabra. I wore a very suiting outfit, as a (very humble) homage to Liberace’s flamboyance. I pale in comparison with his glittery suits covered in Swarovski  crystals. I really enjoyed the film, not only the actor’s performances were amazing but also touched on the very current theme of gay marriage and partner’s rights.

Details: Silk and golden thread dress – Vintage (80’s, maybe?), thrifted from Salvation Army on my most recent trip to Florida, Tights – H&M, Gold Shoes – Office (via Ebay), Necklace – Hello Kitty for Sephora, Black Hair Bow – Dorothy Perkins (on sale)

Hope you had a lovely week!
