Fashion Film

Fashion Film is a little video directed by Matthew Frost and starring Lizzy Caplan for Viva Vena!, part of the Vena Cava fashion brand. I am sharing it as I found it to be hilarious because it satirizes a certain type of fashion commercial, fads and bloggers to an extent. I believe this short film summarizes quite well something that has been dancing in my head for a while. I have discussed it with friends but having seen the video, I thought I should share my opinion here and ask for yours.

I prefer blogs with personality. Blogs that are an extension of the person writing them. They don’t have to be picture perfect – They just have to be imaginative, unique. We all have lives outside of the internet and editing one’s life to exhaustion comes across as a little bit fake. Doesn’t mean you’ll have to post photos of the latest boil you got on your arse and other unpleasantries but it does mean being genuine! It means not trying too hard – if that photo didn’t come out perfect, why worry too much? It’s not a fashion magazine and we can always learn from the mistakes, it will come out better next time. It means not borrowing a personality because it looks cool on paper (or in this case on screen) but showing who you are with all of the idiosyncrasies that might entail. We are allowed contradiction and some bad taste as well, that makes for the spice of life! It means being vulnerable because that’s what makes us human! It also means not caring what others might think – who cares if not everyone will like your blog or if you don’t belong to a clique? If you’re doing it for yourself, you’re the only person you have to please.

I can consider myself fortunate to have met online many interesting ladies who are not afraid to be themselves for the whole world to see. It means not necessarily being built like a model or have professional quality photos but their style, personality, imagination, sense of humour   and confidence just shines on. They are truly an inspiration!

Here are a few ladies I can’t live without dropping by their page every now and then – when I have the time, lately it has been impossible to keep up- for a giggle, cool style and witty writing (in no particular order):
