Office Looks – totally inappropriate looks for the office

August 2, 2013

The price intelligence charges its chosen ones is resignation to daily banality.

Don Calacho
And it is with another Don Calacho aphorism that I start a new edition of Office Looks. It’s been a while since the last one, no? So here are a couple more examples of my resistance to daily banality. This time the common denominator is the beije coloured H&M skirt I got from Ebay some time ago. I have been enjoying experimenting with longer lengths but as I’m fairly short and don’t have long legs, I need to compensate with platform shoes as it elongates the lower part of my body visually. Which one is your favourite?
Details: White pleather jacket – H&M (via Sara), Skirt and Tshirt – H&M (via Ebay), Wooden clog bootsDeandri (via Ebay), Bird ring – Primark
Details: Head Scarf – vintage, gift from Andrea , Bralet – Primark (on sale for £2), Skirt – H&M (via Ebay), Flatform shoes – Kurt Geiger (via TK Maxx).
I’ve shared this post with Hat Attack at Judith’s Style Crone.

Office Looks – totally inappropriate looks for the office.

May 31, 2013

Today I should be getting back to England from my week of wonders in Florida. As usual I am most likely extremely tired, so here’s a couple of photos from last week at the office to last until I start posting bout all my USA adventures. The common denominator this time is the lovely light peach Reiss cardigan I got from Ebay. One of the best recent purchases, I must say.

I can’t resist a sailor collar!

Shoes – Office , Dalmatian Spots Dress – Topshop Unique, Cardigan – Reiss (all via Ebay), Bow – H&M, Spectacles – GokWan

“Look! OMG! My legs are shrinking!” – Black Beret – Dorothy Perkins (on sale), Dress – H&M (from a swap with Lili), Tights – Calzedonia, Shoes – Ted Baker (via TK Maxx), Cardigan – Reiss (via Ebay).

Funny story about the shoes: I had seen them quite a few times at the Ted Baker shop at Heathrow Airport and several times felt tempted to buy them but didn’t because: a) there’s just so much I am willing to pay for jelly shoes and it it wasn’t that much b) as I was about to travel, I didn’t want to arrive at my destination with my suitcase already full. What a great surprise to have found them at TK Maxx, heavily reduced and at a more convenient time! They were, it seems, destined to join the ranks of my shoe collection.

See you on the other side of the ocean.

PS: Yes, I’ve been fooling around  with the effects on Pic Monkey!

Cosmo Super Blogger Masterclass

May 20, 2013

Last Tuesday I headed down to London with a friend to attend the Super Blogger Masterclass organized by Cosmopolitan Magazine. It was a very full day, starting with a half day at work, a train trip down to London and a Museum visit before we headed to the British Library Conference Center to attend the main event of the day.

As soon as we arrived at King’s Cross, we headed to the Wellcome Trust, to see what was going on there. We ended up seeing a wonderful exhibition: Souzou – Outsider Art from Japan. Outsider Art is the English equivalent to Art Brut, a genre made by people outside of the established art world – often institutionalized or children. I was unable to take photos of the exhibition but I can tell you that it was extremely inspiring. You can find more details here.

The day was quite miserable – the rain had a nagging presence for the majority of the day, it was lucky we didn’t have to leave Euston Road at all. We stopped on the way back to the Library to snap a couple of photos of what I was wearing for the day:

I decided I should wear something comfortable for the day and I didn’t regret it – I knew I’d be walking for a bit and that the weather wasn’t going to be forgiving so layering was necessary. It would appear that Spring only lasted for 2 days and I spent them in bed recovering from the op! Now, for the details – Dress– Suncoo, Bag – I don’t remember, both via TK Maxx, Leopard Coat – Topshop, Gold Shoes – Office, both via Ebay, Cardigan – Vintage, Headband – H&M, Plastic Bag – I bought what seems to be an interesting book on Outsider Art at the museum.

There were around 200 people attending the event. There was a good mix of ages and most likely types of blogs too. I wasn’t the oldest person on there, these events sometimes make me feel old.

The panel. You can find more details on the speakers on the Cosmopolitan website here. I have to say I enjoyed the event a lot. It’s always good when you learn new things that you can apply as well as confirm a few things I am doing right. Of course there’s also things that I am doing wrong but I’ve been polishing them out little by little, or so I hope. In the end I got to say hello to Kat Williams of Rock ‘n’ roll Bride as well as Andreas Poulos and Dom Smales. All very nice and available people.

As one of the things we were told is very healthy to do is to collaborate with other bloggers and create a community, so I am linking this up to Patti’s Visible Monday.
