Easter in Edinburgh – 1st day

April 23, 2014

IMG_8578

My friends and I took the opportunity to take a short vacation up in Scotland, more specifically in Edinburgh, because of the 4 day long weekend. I’d been there before in the early noughties for Hogmanay and it was very different to see the city in the sun, as opposed to covered under a layer of snow.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, its Gothic charm and history is very appealing to my aesthetic sensibilities. Although we got there at lunch time on the Friday we still managed to walk around and explore a great bit.

As a lot of walking was going to happen the most sensible thing to do is to wear sensible shoes I can actually walk on. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to road test the Shoeps shoe lace replacement, by Gumbies. The laces on these Converse were getting a bit manky so I just binned them and put the Shoeps on them. They did really well, after walking for miles they didn’t snap and are really comfortable. Now I want to have all the colours so I can make a Shoeps rainbow on my shoes! What else did I wear? Easy: Dress – Yumi (second hand), Cardigan – Fat Face (not a brand I usually shop at but I had to pick it up one time at the airport when I realized I had put my cardi in the checked baggage, d’oh!), Shoes – Converse All Star (found brand new with tags in a charity shop in Lisbon, aeons ago), Long Sleeve tee – Primark

As always, I have lots of material to show you. Will be posting over the next few weeks, hopefully. Have you ever been to Edinburgh too?

What I wore in Lisbon

April 16, 2014

Some of it, anyway. After a while it got a bit boring to take outfit photos in a hurry because it was raining or the light was too crappy… I thought I should relax and not think about it instead. Here’s the few I did register.

IMG_8151

As you can see, we got totally caught up in the rain. I am drenched and huffing and puffing too, as climbing the stairs up to the 6th floor is no easy business. Details: Green cardigan – Zara, Dress – sample, c/o Dorothy Perkins (from the vouchercodes.co.uk event), Necklace– c/o Name the Necklace, ShoesMatalan , Nail Wraps – Machesa Fashion for L’Oreal

I bought this jumper because Mr D’s grandparents back in the US have an adorable hairy chihuahua named Lovey. I miss them so it helps me remind me of them. Details: Cardigan – Zara, Skirt – Monki (swap with Lili), Hairy Chihuahua Sweat – H&M, Glitter shoes – Springfield, Hair Bow– Matalan

The light was fading fast on this one, even the details came out awful, but I have to show you my Star Wars tee. I just love it. Details: Green cardigan – Zara, Star Wars Tunic – H&M, Leggings – Tezenis (I had to pick them up in a hurry when I realized I couldn’t bend without showing my arse to the world haha), Necklace– c/o Name the Necklace, Shoes – Matalan.

Bonus: my very first video. Just some outtakes of Mr D and I walking around, the rain and some more rain. The music is by The Japanese Girl and you can download the whole album for free.

For the first time in our lives, Mr D and I spent our wedding anniversary in the same country and better still, in the city where it all started, Lisbon.

We didn’t do all that much for our anniversary, just stayed home for a long time avoiding the rain, for the most part. But it was very nice to just sit around with no place to be and no stress, just hanging out. As we still don’t live together because of paperwork, just spending some time together not doing anything is a luxury.

Mr D cooked for me, which is something I always miss and almost demanded for. After we left the house we headed to Miradouro das Portas do Sol, one of the many viewpoints of Lisbon. There was a particular motive for this – it is close to home and one of the places that we had heard are now bearing love lockers. Lisbonites can’t put love lockers on the bridge and have to make do with the viewpoints. We put in ours and despite not being on a bridge, I still think it’s a nice place to be, overlooking the river. We hope to leave a few more lockers scattered around the world now!

For the rest of the day we just walked around holding hands, dined at the vegetarian restaurant Terra and went to Pavilhao Chines for cocktails where the nice waiter snapped a quick photo of us with my phone.

3 years of marriage, after we’ve know each other for a couple of years before. 3 years might not seem like much but in our situation feels like an eternity. the 3 year mark is also very important as from now on we can start applying for visas and passports as spouses. Hopefully by the end of this year we can both stay legally in the same country.

LX Factory – best places in Lisbon

March 31, 2014

LX Factory Lisbon

LX Factory is an old warehouse compound in the Santos area of Lisbon, that has been transformed into one of the hippest places to be. By the time I moved to England it was already there but not as developed as it is today. For that reason I went and spent an afternoon there with Catarina of From Someone In Love. (click on the link for some more fab photos of the place). We had a great time and I really enjoyed meeting Catarina and her hubby in person.

LX Factory has everything: nice boutiques with cool clothes, cafes with delicious desserts, bookshops with miles and miles of books and antique shops with all sorts of old Portuguese memorabilia… At night you have not only restaurants available but also bars and other venues with concerts or the theatre. Just walking around is fun, as there is loads of street art and murals to look at (I’ll be sharing the street art in a separate post). To me, this is one of the best places in Lisbon at the moment. Don’t miss out, if you are looking for things to do in Lisbon.

PS: the massive poodles were spotted for Vix. Unfortunately they were too big and expensive, but I thought of you!

PS2: I don’t know what’s going on with the kinky rabbit… I just thought I had so share it, it’s so bizarre!

Favourite places in Lisbon

I am in Lisbon at the moment, having some time off work and spending time with hubby, family and friends. I have just realized I never shared the photos I took on my last trip there, back in December. I’ll have a gazillion more so I thought I’d quickly get these out of the way.

Enjoy!
