Scorchio!

August 12, 2013

I have come to realize that I don’t know what to wear in the heat anymore… these last couple of weeks of continuous warm weather have certainly caught me by surprise! At least the temperatures are not as high as I used to endure back home in Portugal… The Summer and the high temperatures lasted for months and some nights it was impossible to sleep, as no one really has AC.

So here are a couple of looks from the past few weeks:

Details: the Ultimate Loser tank top – Ashish for Topshop, Skirt – River Island, Sunnies – Moschino, Beads – thrifted, Shoes – Swedish Hasbeen s for H&M

Details of the somewhat more grownup and more work appropriate look: Beaded Top: Clements Ribeiro (via TK Maxx), Skirt – H&M (swap with my friend Lili), Polkadot Sandals – Primark

The weather has been so nice I felt more confident to invest in more sandals, can you believe that? It’s the first time that happened in the last 3 years I’ve been in England. In the meantime, I wish you all a great week and don’t forget to check out all the other lovely ladies at Visible Monday.

Myakka River State Park

July 15, 2013

One of the best things about Florida is the amount and variety of parks you can visit and explore. This time we went to Myakka River State Park, on our way back from Arcadia . We had a nice and relaxing walk around and although we didn’t get to see some of the biggest animals that live around there, we did have some nice surprises.

Watch the birdie! We had a bit of a laugh with this little one – as we approached he flew away complaining… that’s it COMPLAINING! and if he wasn’t it sure sounded like it. He didn’t seem to like the fact that we were disturbing him by walking along the river.

Pretty flowers.

A small alligator. He didn’t get too close and we didn’t really want it to.

Did I say it was relaxing? It was really pleasant and we shared some good moments taking pictures around here.

A monkey climbing the palmtree… oh wait. It’s my husband.

The dress was good camouflage.

Mr D spotted this very little one, It was a miracle he didn’t get squished. I hope he grows up to be a big frog and dies of old frog age.

What I wore: Dress – H&M for Water collection, via Ebay (how perfect was that for this holiday?) Sunnies – Moschino, Hair flower – H&M (on sale), Sandals– Topshop, thrifted on my day out with Curtise, Bracelets – present from Mr D’s Grandma.

Has anyone been to the parks in Florida? If so, which one is your favourite?

Don’t forget to sign up for the eyewear  giveaway, it would be great to get 50 participants so they can give one lucky reder a pair of glasses totally free! Otherwise it will just be the six $20 discount vouchers.

I am adding this post to Patti’s Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style. Have a lovely week everyone!

We’re up all night to get lucky

June 10, 2013

Here are some of the looks from the week I spent in Florida. I better crack on with posting the photos of the trip… I have so many! It’ll be hard to pick a few for the blog. It was an amazing week, with equal parts of relaxation and excitement and of course, spending time with the hubby.

Details: Flying Eiffel Towers – Reko, thrifted at Oxfam, Gold Sandals – Topshop, thrifted on my trip to Sheffield, Flower – H&M (on sale), Golden Bracelets – present from Mr D’s grandma.

Details: Red Lobster Dress – Rodnik Band, via Ebay (some funny guy asked if Î was from Maine, badummm tschhhhhhh), Tote Bag – from a Design Festival hubby attended in Melbourne, Sandals – Present from Mr D’s grandma, Flower – H&M (on sale)

As I was planning, we did a couple of road trips  (we ended up going to Disneyland, yay!), picked up the new album from Daft Punk, and it became the soundtrack for the week. I loved the songs, they have a very amusing and “feel good” retro feeling. It might not be for all tastes and a lot of people were disappointed as their sound on this record is totally different from their previous more electronica sounding albums. For my part, as I’ve always had a weak spot for disco, I appreciated the grooves on this record. The Get Lucky song just makes me want to dance! These dudes do it the right way:

As it is Monday I am adding this to Patty’s Visible Monday over at Not Dead Yet Style.

Cosmo Super Blogger Masterclass

May 20, 2013

Last Tuesday I headed down to London with a friend to attend the Super Blogger Masterclass organized by Cosmopolitan Magazine. It was a very full day, starting with a half day at work, a train trip down to London and a Museum visit before we headed to the British Library Conference Center to attend the main event of the day.

As soon as we arrived at King’s Cross, we headed to the Wellcome Trust, to see what was going on there. We ended up seeing a wonderful exhibition: Souzou – Outsider Art from Japan. Outsider Art is the English equivalent to Art Brut, a genre made by people outside of the established art world – often institutionalized or children. I was unable to take photos of the exhibition but I can tell you that it was extremely inspiring. You can find more details here.

The day was quite miserable – the rain had a nagging presence for the majority of the day, it was lucky we didn’t have to leave Euston Road at all. We stopped on the way back to the Library to snap a couple of photos of what I was wearing for the day:

I decided I should wear something comfortable for the day and I didn’t regret it – I knew I’d be walking for a bit and that the weather wasn’t going to be forgiving so layering was necessary. It would appear that Spring only lasted for 2 days and I spent them in bed recovering from the op! Now, for the details – Dress– Suncoo, Bag – I don’t remember, both via TK Maxx, Leopard Coat – Topshop, Gold Shoes – Office, both via Ebay, Cardigan – Vintage, Headband – H&M, Plastic Bag – I bought what seems to be an interesting book on Outsider Art at the museum.

There were around 200 people attending the event. There was a good mix of ages and most likely types of blogs too. I wasn’t the oldest person on there, these events sometimes make me feel old.

The panel. You can find more details on the speakers on the Cosmopolitan website here. I have to say I enjoyed the event a lot. It’s always good when you learn new things that you can apply as well as confirm a few things I am doing right. Of course there’s also things that I am doing wrong but I’ve been polishing them out little by little, or so I hope. In the end I got to say hello to Kat Williams of Rock ‘n’ roll Bride as well as Andreas Poulos and Dom Smales. All very nice and available people.

As one of the things we were told is very healthy to do is to collaborate with other bloggers and create a community, so I am linking this up to Patti’s Visible Monday.
