‘Why, they’re beautiful’ Margaret said, smiling, and went over and began putting them into her basket, the basket she had brought for such things.

Title quote from In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan

Since I have already been wearing some of the things I bought over at Florida and posted some of them, I thought I’d post the loot I got from this trip, before posting the rest of the photos.

I mainly got second hand/ vintage items because Venice FL was thrifting paradise. Not only there were a lot of charity shops, but they were also huge and with lots of nice things and ridiculously inexpensive, particularly compared to the ones I am used to here in England.

So let’s start from the beginning. The first shopping I did was in Arcadia FL, a little town where most shops are antique shops and they even hold an enormous flea market on Saturdays, which I missed, sadly. However we went to this big store called Opera House, because it is situated inside the town´s old opera house, complete with a stage and everything. I took a few photos inside it and of some of the interesting things I saw there but I didn’t buy, I’ll be posting those some time soon. I got there these cute Bailey’s cups, the 1930’s boater hat, brand new deer skin gloves (I suspect they may be from the 70’s or so, looking at the tag) and a metal belt (not sure when from, maybe 60’s?).

We went to the mall in Tampa in one of the days and I got these few things: a cardigan, a strapless dress (one of my favourite purchases) and a lacy velvety bodicon dress from Wetseal. The latter doesn’t fit me (I didn’t try it on as we wanted to leave and had already been to the fitting room), it’s an S and if anyone wants to have it just leave me a comment, I’ll gladly send it as a gift. I removed the tag when I was trying to put it on at home though, but you can see it is brand new. I also got the stars cardigan in H&M and a leopard print skirt and weekender bag at F21 but didn’t take photos of those.

Below you can see two pairs of Liz Claiborne and Vera Wang sandals and a tacky oversized tee I got on a trip to Salvation Army. I got these plus another pair of white high heeled sandals and scarves and paid the grand total of $12.00 as they were having a sale. I even found a pair of old snakeskin Ferragamo loafers but they were too small and slightly scuffed so I just left them there. My husband said I had a very stupid contented smile on my face when we left the store. No wonder, with such nice things and ridiculous prices…

I got these from a cat rescue charity I don’t remember the name of. The nautical skirt and the pullover are Liz Claiborne and the slippers are Unisa. I also got a Hawaiian style shirt for a friend, as they’re quite common in Florida. $5 and a few cents was the bill.

The last shopping trip was to Goodwill and that’s where I spent the most money – all this plus a Perry Ellis and some other brand shirts for Mr D came to a total of $53.00

Above you can see a 60’s bag, made in Japan and a Rome souvenir scarf, that I’ve been enjoying worn tied around my head. I showed the bag to Mr D and he wasn’t too sure about it until I told him it was made in Japan. He then said ‘get it, nothing is made in Japan anymore’. I thought that was funny.
I got these 2 Hawaiian style men’s shirts for myself, the drinks patterns are so much fun. I’m hoping to wear them soon, weather permitting.

The white fake fur is from H&M, which is not very exciting a find for a thrift store but I liked it a lot. The furry lump on the left is a 60’s hat, it needs some TLC but I can fix it. The granny loafers are too sweet!

Last but not least, a button down dress from the 60’s and a Luella for Target shirt. I’m not sure when I’ll be wearing the dress as it is quite dated, but I’m sure I’ll find a way. The shirt, well, just look at the pattern, it is sooo sweet!

I also got a bunch of nail polish (I’m currently obsessed, remember?) from several pharmacies.

So that’s it. Have you had any good finds recently?

I am so impressed. You deserve an Olympic medal in Shopping! It's hard to believe that there are such nice things in the thrift shops while the people on the streets of Florida look so tacky. Clearly you have great shopping skills.

Wow! You lucky ducky! Check out all the great stuff you found! I am so jealous of how cheap vintage stuff is in the States! It's all expensive here in Canada too 🙁
I think I have those exact gloves- I thrifted them last year. They are incredibly warm and soft inside.
I can't tell if someone else has already requested that wicked black dress in another language but if it's still up for grabs, let me know 🙂
