Is it too late to talk about resolutions?

January 10, 2014

With all the travelling I didn’t have time or opportunity to write about my resolution for this year. After my savings have been depleted by travelling, shopping, driving lessons and replacing my old computer, it is now time to fill the pot again.

The wardrobe is bursting at the seams and needs some streamlining. For that reason I am not buying any clothes this year. That’s right. Not even those 99p bargains from Ebay. Reason being, I have no more space and I don’t really need a new pair of shoes (even if second hand) every week. I have plenty of items that still haven’t had a proper opportunity to shine either!

So,this is what is going to happen:

-I’m not buying clothes (unless it is something that needs replacing like tights and the such). The only exception will be when I am travelling as I always like to go shopping in other places. It should be the only indulgence I will allow myself.

-I’m not buying any fashion magazines either. I usually buy a few when I take the train but I should actually read the books I have been hoarding away and stop cramming my room with magazines. I usually cut them up and make clipping books out of them but I have no time for that.

-I’m going to try and alter some of the clothes I already own and hopefully learn how to sew properly, so I can make my own clothes.

-I’m not buying any more makeup unless it is something that needs replacing (like eyeliner, which I wear every day). I think I have eye shadow in all the colours of the rainbow and some more already.

-I’m not buying any more nail polish. I have all sorts of colours and shades, and only 20 nails to paint each time. I’d have to be a millipede to be able use all the polish I have in my lifetime.

-I’ll try to do clothes swaps as much as possible, as getting new different things is always interesting and exciting. the fact that I am attending one such event tomorrow at ASOS was synchronicity at its best (expect the full report next week).

-Be more realistic with my style and donate more clothes this year.

– In less words, enjoy what I already have a LOT more.

What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on how to get through this?

Guess it’s never too late for any resolutions. Whether it’s the beginning, middle or end of the year πŸ™‚ I like the resolutions you made! To make more of what you already have is also one of my resolutions i made already last year. And to swap stuff is so much fun without spending money!
Good luck to keep your resolutions. xx Tani

I think this is a fantastic set of goals!! I have been thinking along the same lines. I have a lot of things I haven’t worn. I’ve been clearing stuff out, getting what I need and taking out what I don’t need, so all is there to be enjoyed. Super goals doll xx

      We should trade stuff!

I think you’re on the right track. I’m kind of stunned at all the clothes that some bloggers have, and I’ve actually acquired a lot in the last year. But I’m going to weed out the crap and take some stuff to consignment stores. I also thought I would be very careful but start buying a few higher quality things, like coats, shoes, or boots. I usually buy cheap things, but it would be nice to upgrade my look!

You look like a little girls, sooooooooooooo pretty.
No resolutions for me, just live to the full every single day with a smile.

I’m impressed, Sara! I am certainly trying to do some of the same things. I have plenty of clothes, accessories, etc, and am trying to remix and wear them more. If you like them, why not wear them? And I am slowly, slowly moving items on which I just don’t love enough. Swapping, donating, selling, using and enjoying what you have, these are great goals. I never buy magazines, so that isn’t a problem for me!
You look gorgeous, btw, excellent colours. xxx

strangely enough, one of my unspoken resolutions is to stop being so cheap and buy MORE clothes. I love fashion but I’m a total cheapskate. I often times can’t even bring myself to buy a $5 pair of shoes, so I reeeeally don’t have a lot to choose from.

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 14:04

Haha, trust me, you don’t want to be flooded by crap like I am at the moment. I sometimes end up wearing the same shoes several times on the same week because I don’t have time in the morning to drag the bi boxes out of the closet to pick different ones!

Definitely not too late, one of my goals for the year is to spend less money although I didn’t get off to the best start this year. I am so in love with your outfit. Those colours together are perfect I love how bright and fun it is. The print of the cardigan is fabulous.

and you look gorgeous!! red and blue is also my favorite color combo;)

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 13:55

Yes, I agree, don’t stop buying fabric, you make such beautiful things!!!!

  • Reply Bella January 11, 2014 at 14:29

Great resolution Sara! Less is more when we make do with less! I think the downside of being a fashion blogger is the addiction of the new. No need to shop with a full wardrobe. My fave color combo is red white and blue! You look stunning!

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 13:54

Yes, I agree, getting new clothes for the blog is a problem (or excuse) many of us bloggers!

  • Reply Claire January 11, 2014 at 15:09

Great resolutions, I need to follow your list, I don’t really need anything and have so much nail polish too. Love your outfit and the colour you mixed, I would never have though mixing these colours and they look great together πŸ™‚

Great resolutions and in answer to your question…No, it’s never too late πŸ™‚
I’ve been cutting down on my buying since August 2012 and last year I offloaded a massive amount of stuff before the move. I never in a million years thought I’d say this but it’s actually nice to have less. Less stuff clogging up the shelves and cupboards, less clobber to sort through to find something to wear in the mornings. I start 2014 well and truly Feng Shui’ed and that is how I intend to keep it.
Best of luck with your resolutions my love and I hope 2014 will be an awesomely brilliant year for you.
Thank you for your lovely comment over on mine, it made me feel very welcomed back after my blog break.
    Loads of love,

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 13:48

Yeah, you did a massive declutter! It was incredible. sometimes we lose track of how much we end up hoarding…

  • Reply SeΓ±ora Allnut January 12, 2014 at 10:58

I would subscribe your resolutions myself, particularly number one and two, because decluttering my wardrobe and/or room is one of my priorities!
Trading and swapping are also in my list of resolutions, they’re a nice way to try different styles meanwhile having fun with people!
And your mushrooms cardi and pretty red beret are just beautiful pieces, you look gorgeous and cute!

We should all get together and share our progress at some point!

OMG I could have totally written this post as I feel the same way! Donated 7 trash bags full of clothes last Friday and it’s only the beginning πŸ˜€ I have too much stuff I don’t use and sometimes I feel frustrated and imprisoned because of this. Too many times I buy stuff I really don’t need just for the kick of it but now I want to use my money to invest in quality experiences such as spas, massages etc to add more luxury into my life and in knowledge such as courses, workshops and books

Talking about books I have a whole pile with (e)books I need to read so I totally hear you.

You’re such a cool writer and I wish you the best for this year. You go girl!! bus

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 13:34

That’s fab! I totally agree with you, it can become a prison.
I’m with you on the spas. I really enjoy massages and general pampering, should invest more in that instead of pairs of shoes πŸ™‚

I too am going on a clothes moratorium. Even though the majority of what I buy is thrift, it still adds up.

    • Reply Mrs D January 17, 2014 at 13:32

It really does, on the money and closet front. There’s too many clothes in my room!

  • Reply T. January 13, 2014 at 00:38

Good on you, girl! I often think of doing the same, but I am soooo week! I prefer to think that I simply don;t have enough space, not that I have too much stuff!
LOVE the red and blue! XXX

I’ve only just started and it’s getting hard already. ARGH!

Last year I went on a clothes diet. I gave away most of my clothes. And like you said, I only purchased things that I absolutely needed. No indulgences. NONE. It was kind of cathartic. I had fun trying to figure out new ways to make the clothes I had work…for awhile. Then I got totally sick of wearing the same old things all the time. Now I’m trying to remake my same old clothes and maybe a sew a few new ones. (I’m on a budget, too) Just a note: my husband and I were invited to a black tie affair and I had a total “What am I going to wear???” panic attack!!!! I emergency bought (I had 3 days to find something!) a brand new expensive dress that just didn’t fit quite right. It was all I could find on such short notice! I had to have a few extra glasses of wine at the event so I that I could forget about how uncomfortable I was in this stupid dress. Lesson learned: Do Not Panic Shop! Keep on hand a few things in case of emergencies. LOVE YOU!

It’s dreadful when you have to pick up something on purpose, in a hurry and there is nothing in the shops πŸ™ Love you too!
