London – east London and some street art

Yesterday I spent the day out with a few fellow Blogcadettes – Sarah from Laughing Medusa organised a Blogcademy reunion in East London. It was a small group but we had a lot of fun. We had lunch at The Diner on Curtain Road, close to where they usually do the Blogcademy Workshops and after gorging ourselves on burgers, fries and milkshakes, we went for a wander around Broadway Market. I’m not sure if I’d been there before but it’s always a bit of  novelty. Lots of good food, some interesting antiques and vintage clothes on display as well and I fell in love with a Welsh tapestry cape that I had to fight myself hard not to bring home (I have too many clothes and two Welsh tapestry capes as it is). I did very well on not spending money on things I don’t need and I’m now publicly patting myself on the back for it.

I have to say that the East part of London must be one of my favourite areas – there’s so much colour and style to look at, that makes the West area where I live seem boring and uninspiring. I like the fact that just by walking on the street, you are immersed in art – so many murals and other details to fill your eyes with. As street art is so ephemeral, every time you go out there is a surprise. It’s like walking through an ever revolving public art gallery and that’s amazing. Sometimes I find myself wishing my office was in that side of town, so I could live around there. There really isn’t much stopping me from moving to East London, except the prospect of an hour commute on each side of the working day, which I wouldn’t want to do and would make my life even more tired than it already is…
