5 Reasons Why Bacon is Amazing

August 14, 2015

Apologies to all my veggie and vegan friends. Kindly look away for the duration of this post. Here are some cat videos, just in case.

Everyone loves bacon and I’m no exception – it’s one of the main things I have in common with Ron Swanson, haha. I spent many years being a pescatarian and after I started eating meat again, one of the things I fell in love with again was bacon. There are many reasons why I like bacon though and here are a few:

  • It can be eaten at any time of the day. My preferred time to eat it is in the morning and there have been many occasions when I’ve had these Sunday breakfasts featuring bacon, eggs and pancakes all topped up with some sweet maple syrup.
  • It’s savoury – I like sweets, but I’m into savoury a lot more.
  • Goes well with a lot of other foods such as salads and pasta or just on its own in a sandwich.
  • It’s delicious, what else can I say? It’s aas simple as that.
  • It’s better than love.

Thanks to Ozeri for sending me their new Stone Earth Pan so I can enjoy my fried bacon in all its non-sticky glory.

A very English evening with EnglishTown #ETFilmNight

Last week I went to a different kind of event. It wasn’t a beauty launch or an exhibition opening like I very often go to, but an event to celebrate British culture and meet other London expats, all courtesy of English Town. Everyone there was foreign! And you know what to say when you see a lot of foreign people… “coming here, appreciating our culture, enjoying our food“… and that’s exactly what we did.

I had a really nice time – I finally met Erin and Jasmin in person, after following them on Instagram for a while – and it was a lovely time with my bestie Lili. We had food: started with coronation chicken and some kartoffelsalat (potato salad, which, for some reason I like saying it in German). There is a funny story about the origin of the coronation chicken recipe and it doesn’t have anything to do with a very popular TV soap. It was so called because it was created for the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. You live and learn.

Christmas In July with Debenhams #DebsChristmas15

You may find it strange, but Christmas in July is actually a thing, as brands and shops start gearing up for the next festive season, that is now less than 6 months ahead. I was lucky to be invited to the Debenhams Christmas Press Show 2015 and had a sneak peek of what’s going to be available in the next holiday season. Consider this as a substitute for a wishlist!

Of course, there had to be Christmas jumpers, gingerbread cookies and a lot of glitter! No festive season is really festive without tons of glitter, me thinks.

Best of July – in life and on the internet

July 31, 2015

The exploration of London continues, now that it’s been a year that I’ve moved here. A year already! This one time, I headed down to Hackney with my friend Didrik for a lecture at The Last Tuesday Society. We ended up going for dinner at a Brazilian restaurant I didn’t know and is now one of my favourites. It’s called Raizes, it’s located in Hackney Road and worth a visit for feijoada and rodizio. After dinner I realised there was a lot of graffiti in the area, a lot of it cat related. Heaven!

One of the things I finally managed to do this month was to finally go and see the Savage Beauty exhibition, showcasing the genius and talent that was Alexander McQueen. There are no words to describe it, after all, that is the purpose of going there and seeing it for yourself. Although I don’t like every single of his collections, there are some that are absolutely breathtaking. His vision was precise and peculiar, his inspirations varied but translated into his own personal voice. Again, this is another reminder that looking at Fashion and clothes from a mere utilitarian perspective is a fairly limited way of seeing it. These are clothes that are not there to be worn but admired as pieces of art. The exhibition closes its doors at the end of July (the 2nd of August to be more precise) so it might be a little bit late to urge everyone to go there but let me end this by stating that once again (the David Bowie exhibition was another good example of this) the V&A did an excellent job. Bravo!

What else have I been up to? Quite a bit as you may have noticed if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter… Find a few more varied nuggets after the jump!

I’ve got India on my mind. #IndiaInColour

July 26, 2015

It’s on days like these – grey Sundays, that you sit at home listening to the rain fall on the roof (yes, wouldn’t think it’s the Summer, would you?) – that the mind wanders to other warmer and more colourful places, such as India. Haaa, India, you’ve been on my destination bucket list for a while. Maybe one day I’ll get to go, as I’ve forever been fascinated with the culture, religion and folk art. So much colour and beauty but also a place of contrasts. All in all, a place that is a feast for the eyes and the camera!

Joe Blogs couldn’t send me to India to make my dream come true but they did send me a box full of goodies that brought a little bit of India to my home that I put to good use today.
