Last week and after purchasing a discount voucher with a friend, we paid a visit to the blow dry salon Blo, in Covent Garden. It was my first time at a blow dry bar style salon and I was curious as to what kind of services were offered. It was the perfect setting for a girly date!

Before we go any further, it’s worth noting that on a blow dry bar, hair is only styled using, you guessed it, a blow dryer. No scissors nor hair dye are to be found here. This is the perfect place to go if you fancy something a little nicer than your usual regime – before a party or a night out or just because you want to feel nice, as one shouldn’t need any excuses to want to feel pretty.

So, what is Blo? According to their website:

Blo is North America’s Original Blow Dry Bar. No cuts, no color: Just WASH BLOW GO. Guests choose from 7 styles featured in the Blo Hair Menu, from the razor-straight “Executive Sweet” to the runway-inspired “Pillow Talk”. It all started in 2007 with a vital question: “Why isn’t there a place for quick, affordable catwalk-quality blow outs?” We have been coifing ever since. Currently, Blo has 45+ locations to serve you across North America, and the Philippines, with more opening soon…

Also, one of the salon’s main investors is Gwyneth Paltrow. If it’s a good or a bad thing, you decide, as she is quite a controversial figure for a variety of reasons.

The salon looks pleasant and clean – you can’t go wrong with hot pink, right?

The visit started with a look at the menu – you can choose from a variety of hairstyles – from messy tresses to red carpet hair, right through a variety of braids. I fell for the fall in love style – a mix of messy curly hair with a braid around the head. Something I would never be able to pull of on my own, that’s for sure.

After choosing my style, I was moved to the sink, for a wash and a massage.

They use Unite hair products – they’re sulphate free and leave your hair feeling soft and amazing… uuuhh I want to have them at home!

Blo also has Wow products available – that you can either buy or have an individual application. I had no idea these existed but my friend recommended it to me – it’s basically makeup for your hair. When your greys are starting to show their ugly roots, all you have to do is pick the colour that best suits your hair and cover them with the WOW powder on your hair line. Just like magic, it’s gone and apparently it doesn’t run if you get caught in the rain – no one wants to look like they’ve got chocolate running down their faces, right? I’m looking forward to try it myself, as I have those pesky greys (not the alien type) scattered all over my head.

The staff were great, super nice, friendly and competent.I only have good things to say about the services at Blo.

Here is the end result, from the back. I know, I need a dye job ASAP!

As a result, I already bought a couple more vouchers – which I will be using in the next couple of months. I think I’ll get addicted!
